Not awful at $0.07 per piece.

We (myself and primary school children) were really excited when we saw this, we love the theme and thought the idea of the pods and modules would be awesome.
But they are really quite small, with not much scope for modifying.
There are four 'room' pods; two have a glass roof (the translucent dark glass) and the other two rooms have opaque roofs, so you can't see the interiors very well anyway, unless you open the roof. To add to the claustrophobic feel, each end of the room has a non-functional 'door' always in the closed position, and again very hard to mod as it is incorporated into the exterior structure.
The cockpit feels unfinished due to extra space behind the pilot, and makes the lack of a control panel piece, steering wheel, seat, levers or even a sticker even more noticeable. It is essential an empty shell.
The platform for the space 'bike' is also a bit lacklustre, with minimal structure. I tried to work out the approximate cost per module, noting that you can get a better 'space bike' with MF in a $6 RRP polybag.
The biosphere pod and solar panel module are nice touches.
The piece-count sounds good, but where do they all go? The central 'wheel' accounts for a good portion, and also accounts for the "40cm" size of the set, which spreads the modules over a larger area with nothing much between them (it is a space set in every sense of the word).
The modules detach and can be joined into a 'space train'. It adds a little playability, and makes a more convenient way to display the model. The modules can also be linked to similar ones in the other more-expensive sets in the range.
Lots of the current-style City Space minifigures (I think six figures in four colour schemes) is pretty good.

As is always said these days, the RRP was laughable. I bought a water damaged set for $60 and am relieved I didn't pay more.

This is an OK price for an OK set, but adults will likely be disappointed. Playability might be good for younger children (5-9). My kids haven't touched it since building it.
