https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mcc_list will help those wanting to decode the MCC number of a retailer

  • Can any of these be used online with Woolworths gift card portal?

    • +1

      Woolworths gift card portal

It’s in the list provided in the link above

      • In the link above, there is Woolworths Group Gift Card Portal 5399. 5399 isn't listed in the OP's description. It doesn't look like you can use it.

  • +4

$18 promo credit when you spend $150 David Jones gift cards

David Jones has extra 30% off selected categories (women, men and kids) as part of the Afterpay Day promo - great to combine the little bonus from Amazon

  • +2

Looks like they are same as the recent Cashrewards giftcards, just a rebrand of names from ACTIV
    Both managed by blackhawk network

  • Shame we can't use Amazon GC to buy GC's anymore!

    • Not allow anymore?

      • +2

        No more allow.

        • +1

How come they so like that?

  • +1

Any chance of using the category choice supermarket at Coles to buy a Mastercard gift card ?@WookieMonster

    • +6

      I did that last night

      • +1

Can those Mastercards still be used to buy Woolworths gift cards on the everyday rewards or RACV portal?

        • +6

You cannot use any prepaid gift cards to purchase gift cards on the Everyday Rewards app, as the Everyday Rewards app rejects payment cards with no 3-D Secure support.

You cannot use Coles Mastercard gift cards directly on the Woolworths Group gift card portal (e.g. RACV portal), because Woolworths has blocked them as a payment method. However, if you link your Coles Mastercard gift card to PayPal, you should be okay to use PayPal on the Woolworths Group gift card portal checkout (and using Coles Mastercard gift cards as the funding source).

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: That’s about what I thought, cheers

Still works out ahead to buy prepaid through Amazon then Coles MC and just use that at Woolies for groceries than to just use the RACV portal so I might as well try

          • @WookieMonster: So what’s the split payment options like if someone forgot the $5 activation fee aha

            • +1

              @linkindan: At Coles, I assume?

              • If you go to a self checkout, the only way to do split payments is to insert the exact amount of cash you want to spend, then pay the remaining amount owed using one payment card. Do not press the Mixed Payments button, as that will cause an error to pop up (and require a staff member to clear the error for you).

              • If you go to a standard checkout, the checkout will allow split payments between multiple payment cards. Whether the staff member is happy to do this (or knows how to do this) is a different question!

              • @WookieMonster: So there is still a loophole on self serve, excellent aha

PS - where do you get cash from? aha

              • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster Can these cards be used to order for Cole’s online pick up and deliveries , if a refund needs to go back onto the card does that work or cause issues ?

              • +1

@WookieMonster: You absolute (profanity) legend - worked with no issue whatsoever

              • +1

@WookieMonster: For self checkout: do you just press cash first to insert exact cash amount, then POS will prompt for next payment method?

                • +3

@Craze: If you select cash and insert cash, there should be an option to go back to the payment screen after you have finished doing this.

Alternatively, on the payment screen (where you choose cash, card, gift card or mixed payments), just insert the cash without pressing anything. Then you should be able to go back to the payment screen when you have finished inserting cash.

      • Hopefully I can buy the vanilla master/visa cards at woolies with the grocery gift card and get the x10 points

        • +3

          You probably cannot do that.

In the past couple of months, Woolworths automatically rejected ShopBack Supermarket Visa gift cards as a payment method when other people have tried to purchase Vanilla Mastercard gift cards or Vanilla Visa gift cards. ShopBack Supermarket Visa gift cards and Category Choice Groceries gift cards are both functionally Activ Visa gift cards and appear to Woolworths as identical cards, so I would expect Category Choice Groceries gift cards to be automatically rejected as well.

This table may be of interest to you.

        • I can't find a current vanilla master/visa cards deal at woolies. Are you talking about a possible future deal?

      • loophole pending hahaha

      • So you can buy a $100 card from Amazon for $96, then use it to get a $100 Mastercard gift card (and pay the $5 some other way). $101 for $100 and 2000 flybuys?

        • +2

Amazon has variable amount between $5 to $500, you can just buy $105?

        • +3

There is nothing stopping you from buying a $105 Category Choice gift card (unless your payment card only has $96 on it). Amazon AU allows you to select any amount as the face value between $5 and $500, so if you want a $105.69 Category Choice gift card, you can do that.

          In other words:

          • You will spend $100.80 on Amazon AU and get a $105 gift card.
          • You can use that $105 gift card at Coles to purchase a $100 Coles Mastercard gift card. (No need to mess around with split payments in this scenario, which saves a lot of hassle.)
          • You will end up with a $100 Coles Mastercard gift card and 2,105 Flybuys points.
  • Can you use Coles master gift card to buy these gift cards on Amazon?

    • I did that this morning.

It took 20 minutes for the Category Choice gift card to be emailed to me.

      • -1

Pay with Coles MC directly or using PayPal?

      • If I purchase the Category Choice Groceries, could I then use it to purchase the TCN Her, Him cards at Woolies?

        • It should be fine, as I have not heard anyone say it is blocked.

  • Can the Category Choice Health & Wellness card be used at Chemist Warehouse and Priceline? Has anyone tried?

    • not tried but according to the mcc list https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mcc_list
Both priceline and chemist warehouse are recorded as MCC 5912 Pharmacies
So Category Choice Health & Wellness card should work

*note: it has been reported that payment in chemist warehouse website via paypal will be treated as 5999, which will not work with Category Choice Health & Wellness card

      • If you use the payment processor on the website it is 5912. Otherwise you can always go in-store to buy a store gift card with it.

    • +2

Can confirm Health and Wellness works at Chemist Warehouse I've tried previously ☺️

  • Has anyone used the Tradie gift card at Bunnings online?

    • +1

Yeah it worked for me, but the value of the single visa gift card you get needs to cover the cost of the whole transaction (i.e. can't mix and match multiple payment methods)

  • Thanks OP. Got $500 groceries card, added to Samsung Wallet and bought 5 $100 Coles Mastercards currently on 2000 Flybuys Points offer.

    • just saw max $500

    • Lucky that you still able to find $100 stocks
It has been ran out for all the coles nearby where I live

    • $480 for $500 and 10k flybuys. Pretty good deal!

      • should be 525-20 +10k

  • Has this expired already or am I doing something wrong? When I go to pay, at the checkout the amount to pay does not include the 4% discount.

    • yup party's over

      • Bugger. The banner is still on the website.

  • Gee must have just got my last order in.

  • Is the groceries card can use to buy Coles prepaid MasterCard on their gift card store website?

    • Yes, confirmed by @WookieMonster above. I can confirm myself as well that it works 😊

      • Thank you.

      • "yes" is 50% correct, it can use to buy coles GC in store
        but
"NO" can't use at coles giftcard website
