You asked this question last year, you're asking it again now… you seem to be quite fit to work in government 👍

I guess private's already taken all the driven and highly motivated people…

      • Having worked in both I can say that the private sector has just as many incompetent people as the public sector.

        Doesn't everyone ?

    • You get ChatGPT to write you one, and then get copilot to rewrite it for you, and then back to ChatGPT

Documentation where you outsource most of the work and hoping to take credit for it (ie get the job).

You sure you aren't suitably qualified to apply for management level positions?

  • Oh… If you're not equipped to handle the application aspect, it's unlikely you'll succeed in the interview and/or job.

Unless there's some other reason you're requesting assistance from randoms apart from inexperience?

They want to be a government project manager, getting other people to do the work is the job. Personally I'm disappointed their post didn't set out unrealistic timelines while showing absolutely no clue in what they're trying to deliver.

    Ok ill sepcify:

With the cover letter for a government job what is the expected number of pages it should be? Normally i know a cover letter is one page.
For the resume, one page is precise and to the point? Or two pages is also ok?

I wouldn't. You"ll only have to take antibiotics.

Make sure you use all the keywords from the selection criteria in both your cover letter and resume so you make the HR robot's shortlist. Otherwise don't spend too much time on it; no one reads cover letters and enlightened employers don't bother asking for them. A resume beyond two pages is TLDR.

    • Thank you!

You seem great for this government role.

Delegating work to unpaid interns - check

    Avoiding doing work - check

Asking the same question you have before, while being no closer to a solution - check.

The more woke you can be, the better your chances

    • Thanks

  • Lol you guys are hilarious.
I might have asked the same question last time, thats irrelevant for now.
Trying a different field from the one i am currently in.
Haven't applied to government jobs for a while now. Just needed some general tips, not expecting other people to do the work for me.

I'm glad you took it in your stride.

not expecting other people to do the work for me.

This attitude is unfit for public servants though, you need to be lazier than this.

Make sure to hit as many DEI elements as possible cannot hurt. Government positions actively promote these.

    • Thanks

  • Ensure you address the selection criteria point by point.Do not just send a cover letter with your resume.

Ensure documents is formal, well formatted and spell checked. This is my first test on whether they have any office/communication skills.

Remember to use 'SEE'. Statement, Example, Explain example relating to statement. I quickly throw out applications that just repeat the question back to me. eg. I am flexible and able to show initiative and respond quickly when situations change. No examples from past employment or anything more then the question parroted back.

I have been on government panels and if we get too many applications its easy grounds to cull quickly with a note: 'did not address selection criteria'.

Turn up for a face to face interview. Too many people want to call in or do zoom meetings. My theory is if you can't be bothered making the trip you can't be trusted to get to work every day. The panel will often miss the cues to supply prompts when the interviewee's aren't understanding the panel questions. Also, you miss any chance of building rapport with the panel members, who will likely be one or more of your direct colleagues. I have negged too many for having the right skills but unsure if they will fit into the office culture when i can't get a good read. And remember the panel is almost as nervous as you. We don't want to be there either lol.

    Good luck!

    • Thank you!

  • If you're not native English speaker, don't bother applying. You won't get past the interview. Government recruitment process is designed to filter out immigrants.
