Shopback don't payout substantial amounts. They owe me $380 from a booking that was completed in January. The booking was tracked and completed. Shopback are blaming Booking.com but continue to promote their deals.

    • +2

I had the other day a Shopback Booking.com payout, all was fine and normal and only took 29 days from completion of the stay to payable in my account.

      • They seem to payout smaller amounts YMMV

        • +2

It was $435.50, granted I paid upfront with zero cancellation. It does take significantly longer if you have chosen to pay at the property as the property does need to send the commission to Bookings.com.

    • I have the same issue with booking.com but through raiz, says tracked for 242.13 and then says reversed for 161.50 and still nothing for more than 4 weeks now. Shocking! Paid in full too.

    • +2

It's always a gamble 😂 Don't take it too seriously.

Now I make my Booking.com via Bupa rewards, usually a good deal is there

      • agree. tracked means nothing.

    • Just checked, Bupa has 15% discount lol

They paid me like a breeze as well..

Total 21% discount. 6% paid back by booking.com if you use your master card. Have to use before September

      • Never knew Bupa has a rewards systems!

For a limited time, save 15% on participating accommodation with the Getaway Deal 2024 deals with Booking.com when you book and stay before 30 September 2024

Damn looking to book for Octover 2024, looks like shopback will have to do!

      • damn didnt know wohoo will boook tonight
        where is the 6% clause?

      • Hi, I am a Bupa member. How can I find the 21% deal? Thank you

        • +1

          Log into bupa website

          https://www.bupa.com.au/

Click on LifeRewards then My benefits -> Offers

          • @CodeXD: fyi i see the t&c says only certain properties indicated by the "getaway deal " badge not sure what that is

            • @CyberMurning: It is explained in the t&c

Minimum 15% savings available on new accommodation bookings at participating properties indicated by the ‘Getaway Deal’ badge on the search results and room selection pages.

              • @CodeXD: yeah so need to be careful also some room doesnt have that green getaway deal so make sure read - not just hotel, but each room types

          • @CodeXD: Thx mate

      • @sqheaven
        re the bupa offer
i see the t&c says only certain properties indicated by the "getaway deal " badge - its the green label.

        • +1

Yes. I booked the one with the badge. Otherwise, nothing comes back from booking.com.

You'd get the 15% reflect in your checkout I guess, 6% back from bookings

          • @sqheaven: ah yes 6% back as wallet credit ie only can be used with bookings.com again but not bad hopefully never expire

            • @CyberMurning: When I booked last year, they paid me the entire 21% as a single payment. I paid the full amount in the checkout.

Hopefully, it would be a lot better than gambling with shopback losers.

              • @sqheaven:

                1. All Credits have an expiration date, which you'll find in the Rewards & Wallet activity of your Wallet.
                  damn
          • @sqheaven: @sqheaven can we book from bookings.com app if going via bupa app? i seems to open website only on my mobile. are the prices on boookings.com same between app and website?

            • +2

@CyberMurning: I don't suggest using the phone. Use your PC. You will see when you are redirected from Bupa, there is a banner which says you are using Bupa's affiliate link lol

              • @sqheaven: Ah yes see that banner too. Okay. I just thought using app will give us futher discount but probably not bookings.com but i got mixed up with others (maybe agoda)

                • +1

@CyberMurning: Yeah go for it, on PC you can see the property in more detail. Like my wife is only interested in the bathroom and its size and cleanliness lol

                  • @sqheaven: Im consufed. On the very last page booking but i cant see the discount provided by bupa. I mean there is a big discount but it says bonus saving, from the hotel (18%)
                    And then 10% discount genius.

                    • @CyberMurning: Send me the link to the property in the DM and I can try it for you to see how much I get, I'm not sure what's going on to be honest.

    • +3

I just got back from a recent around the world trip.
Had over 1k in cashback (booked a few months out) using these promos.

all paid out no problems. did all my withdrawls last week.

      So happy with the service.

    • +1

I have none of the issues others mention.

Have had hundreds of dollars paid out by booking. Com/shopback.

The price on site is always way cheaper. I just booked accommodation for $1500 that was $2700 on the hotel website for example. If I check on booking.com with a logged out account it's $2200. Genius discount and shopback make it way cheaper.

Not sure what I'm doing different but booking.com and shopback have been great for me.

      • +2

I find a small number of property prices go up using Booking.com (& other online agents) when clicking thru from Shopback. Agoda is one of the worst, sometimes with big price hikes. I also find some prices go down when clicking thru from an aggregator, like TripAdvisor, probably because they know you're comparing prices.

Hotels.com is also a good place to try. It doesn't have the large cashbacks, but it's free night after 10 stays has worked well for me. This can be stacked with it's typical 3% cashback. Occasionally it even has the best price.

        • I never turn on cashback with Agoda for this very reason! Fortunately Agoda prices are often the lowest for me so that's okay. Unfortunately also I can't pay in the local currency so invariably end up paying AUD through Agoda's conversion rate.

      • Just tested this theory,

Looking at hotels for Cairns in July next year.
        10-20% more expensive… what the f…

        Novotel Cairns
        Crystalbrook

    • Yes I'd go with the same % with Cashrewards anytime cos it tracks easily and paid on time. Last experience was close to $750 cashback amount from a $6000+ booking for a family holiday last December.

  • +2

i did booking without shopback last weekend! shopback showed 40% markup on booking without shopback. unsure if anyone faced same before.

    • -1

There's almost always a markup but 40% is way ott.

As Scrimshaw suggested : As always, check prices via booking directly at the hotel you want to stay before booking via Booking.com. In some circumstances, it may be cheaper to book directly with the business. I'd go further and suggest you ring the hotel you're keen on and ask for their best price (tell them what you're getting obviously). Many reasons - no hassles with cashback, you can ask about room location options, and you may even get a slight discount or free/cheap breakfast option in lieu.

    • Definitely the prices are marked up when using Shopback. Only when they increase the cashback amount to say 10-15%. On the standard 5% the prices are actually better.

  • IMO the 11% Expedia through Cashrewards a better deal as no foreign transaction

    • I’m finding because you can’t book via app for cashback on Expedia, the cashback is worthless. The hotel I’m looking at is around 10% higher on their website as opposed to the app. Unless I’m doing something wrong

      • I've sometimes found booking is cheaper on mobile web (equiv to app pricing) vs desktop web.

  • +1

You can combine Genius & Cashback

    • Can you explain?

    • +1

Clicking thru Shopback to the Booking.com webpage shows the logo at the top In partnership with Shopback while offering (me) 10% Genius discount on selected properties. The appearance is certainly that they stack, Genius and cashback.
Clicking thru Shopback to the Booking.com app also shows the Genius discounts, plus a few in-app discounted properties. I assume they stack, but it's not clear.

    • From my experience the Genius discount disappears as soon as you activate CB/SB.

  • how many booking can i make?

  • Ive found i can always get better prices than the cashback price and my genius discount when im NOT logged in to my account lol.

  • Do they still jack the prices after click thru SB?

    • its their business model what else do you expect.

  • +1

You really need to check in a logged out account, an account with genius on it, also clicking through shopback vs not clicking through shopback and finally, mobile vs desktop. The prices on booking.com are so variable that simply clicking through shopback doesn't always get you the best deal. It often does, but not always.

  • Booking.com has its place, but it is absolutely worth checking with the hotel directly via their website or their own rewards program. In my experience of staying at Hilton's and various Accor hotels, booking direct with them is significantly better

  • just last night comparing sb and klook, pretending i can get 12% from sb, versus 10% off straight from klook.
    klook was cheaper.

  • +1

All these cashback deals are bs, when you activate the link the price rises by 10% plus

    • +3

      Agoda is the worst culprit.

      • Booking/agoda are both shocking, rates go up equivalent of cashback, don’t know how it’s legal, had to book a heap of stuff recently barely got any cashback as it didn’t make sense once activated, never was this bad years ago

    • Also their loyalty program genius is the same. Log in with VPN and check same hotel works out cheaper than Genius level 3 and all of its discounts. What a joke.

  • We calculate Cashback based on the purchase price, excluding:

    Fees
    Taxes
    Service charges
    Booking fees
    Credit card charges

My cashback seems to be tracking at slightly over 12% of the total price paid

  • dumb question, but in order to get the deal you have to select pay now right ?

    • +1

      Nah, don’t think so.

Here’s a couple of examples I had that successfully paid out …

      Prepaid Booking (to Booking.com)
10/07/2023 Booked CRMI (motel) $138.00, paid in full
      10/07/2023 ShopBack tracked at $7.60
      17/07/2023 Stay at CRMI
07/10/2023 ShopBack confirmed at $7.56, from purchase of $137.28 (5.5%)

      Postpaid Booking (to motel)
20/07/2023 Booked EPMI (motel) $304.00, no prepayment
      20/07/2023 ShopBack tracked at $16.82
22/07/2024 Stay at EPMI, pay $304.00 to motel
xx/xx/2023 ShopBack confirmed at $16.84, from purchase of $306.22 (5.5%)

Further, at EPMI they have notices in reception, and in the room, and the manager told me, that Booking.com take a large cut and it’s better to book directly, but their direct price was higher than the net amount I paid (after cashback), as well as less convenient, so that was silly. They pay Booking.com via a statement at the end of each month.

      • thanks for letting me know, the deal is over now but will come in handy next time thank you

  • The range of discounts that gets applied to these booking sites are ridiculous.
There's new customer discount, first time visit discount, mobile device discount, returning visitor discount, member discount, cashback discounts.
Some hotels are worse than others.
The only way to check you're getting the best discount is to go through various booking methods.

  • made 5 booking, all tracked

  • Update: I reached out to @gotyourback who got this payment issue sorted out for me. Thanks @gotyourback
