AUDA, the governing body for .AU domain names, has set out the rules for eligibility for registering .au domain names. You can review them here: https://www.auda.org.au/policy/au-domain-administration-rule…
If you need an domain name to do reverse proxy lookups, maybe look at registering another top level domain name
You can register in either of the .au or id.au namespaces as an individual. They seem to be free for the first year via https://ventraip.com.au/domain-giveaway/ at the minute btw.
Thank you very much! This is perfect and will let my work out how to set up my reverse proxies etc. I was also going to get one of those US$0.99 p/y digit only ones as well. Eg NNNNNNN.XYZ
Damn, seems to require an ABN, ACN or a trademark number to register a domain. I just wanted to set one up to do reverse proxy lookups on my synology NAS.
EDIT:
You can also register a domain without an ABN or ACN. This applies when you do not wish to run a business from your website. For non-commercial use, registerable domains include:
.com;
.net;
.org; or
.info.
