  • thanks, got it. Occasionally I'll buy more in a series if I really like it, after a free box set, or free first books in a series. Most times I'll read the free ones and not bother going further, as most series aren't worth pursuing….just use the freebies as time fillers until the next lot.

I ended up buy the last 2 book in the cradle series by Will Wight. Worth the money .

        yes, same here

Me too. Best free books I've ever received.

@Dealf Hunter: I think I've read everything Wight has put out except the latest space one.

            • @Nalar: I have the first two in that series (free), haven't read them yet

              • @souths123: Oh is the 2nd book free now? I read Captain but wasn't ready to buy the 2nd book yet, but if it's free then I'm sold.

TBH it's the weakest series compared to cradle, traveller etc.

                • @Nalar: might not be free now, I got it when it was

  • At least his proofreading improved by this series and has less typos than the original frost born series.

  • any other fantasy/sci-fi recommendations?

I've finished Mistborn, Project Hail Mary, a few of Scalzi, currently on Bobiverse.

Red Rising is a wild ride.

      • thanks, I'll check it out.

      • second Red Rising, the whole trilogy is fantastic

Just finished Book 1, God damn it IS a wild ride, thanks for recommendation!

        • Glad you liked it mate! :)

depends on what sorts you want or like. There are so many out there. Janny Wurts pretty much any of her series, Raymond Feist series (Magician etc), the Wheel of Time, although I wasn't happy with how that finished up (the last two books) Robin Hobb (Farseer trilogies x 3), Brent Weeks (Night Angel) The Malazan series by Steven Erikson (that can be a bit intense, but good series) Sword of Truth series, Terry Goodkind, Lynn Flewelling, all of her series, just to name a few

    • I second Red Rising. Brilliant. I've been rereading the whole series every time a new book comes out.
Reading Sun Eater series by Chris Ruocchio at the moment. 3 books in and really enjoying it.
Robin Hobb was a bit hit and miss for me. Loved The Farseer, Tawny Man and Fitz and the Fool trilogies, but not the others.
Malazan series, as someone else said, is full on. I got a bit passed half way and may go back to it, but needed a break.

But absolutely start with Red Rising. Also the writer (Pierce Brown) is keen to make it into a TV show and has been making slow progress over the last couple of years (afaik not even signed with a streamer yet though so at best still quite a while away).

  • Seen 'Red Rising' recommended here by a few.

Found it for free through Amazon/Audible.

Not sure if it was part of my Amazon subscription or the Audible monthly subscription but FYI either way.
