Can I please get some recommendations for a good gym towel? My SIL is a 6'5" basketball player so I guess I need a fairly big size. Needs the towel for showering after practice and games etc.

Just get a bath towel.
I'm the same height and just use regular bath towels. You can get microfibre and the like, but I personally don't see the need
Matador NanoDry Packable Beach Towel is 76 x 152cm. I don't love how travel towels stick to your wet skin but they're otherwise lighweight and quick to dry. Consider also Macpac Travel Towel XL, similar dimensions
For the gym itself you just need a cover, so it can be anything from super cheap thin cotton to luxury. For showering it needs to dry you but most towels do that. However the main issue is what happens after the shower - is the towel chucked in a bag and used next time, or is it washed every time? If the former then something quick drying like a microfibre travel towel is good (they are also more compact). If its the latter then it doesnt really matter, other than big fluffy towels take up a lot of room.
I actually used a large cheap beach towel cut in half, because you dont need the entire thing. The Kmart towels are completely fine, not gift quality but whatever.
