I am travelling to Europe in Sep/Oct 2024
And I was thinking of buying Apple gift cards and loading on my Apple Account with about 10% discount.
Now when in Europe I wish to buy newly launched IPhone 16 and claim the tax back airport while returning to Australia.
Has anyone done this before and do you think if this is possible?

so when next sale on woolworth or coles comes for Apple card for 10% saving and claiming TRS upon return is possible?
only doubt I have is I will have Apple AU account and money will be in AUD, how will they charge the EUR to Apple Account Balance, can they?
I've never seen TRS incoming. Maybe it is a thing.
You can only claim TRS when leaving
This won't work. Australian Apple gifts cards and Apple account balance will work in AUD only.

and they confirm "you can only use the Apple balance in the same country region to purchase the iPhone."
Now the question what is more beneficial buying Apple giftcard for 10% discount OR buying a iphone outright (using credit card) claiming the TRS Tax Claim on Airport?

You can still claim TRS even if you use apple giftcard for the purchase.
Better to buy (before your trip) in .au using your AUD gift cards and claiming TRS as you leave
