50YEARVINES

Vineyard: A single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Osmond's 'Clay Creek' block located in a beautiful pocket just outside McLaren Flat. The vines are 50 years old, a rarity for Pinot Noir in McLaren Vale. The long established vines make for wonderfully balanced and high quality grapes.

Soils: The soils in this vineyard are deep aluvial clays from the Holocene era (11,700 years old). This area would have been a flood plain that was first planted by settlers so the soils retained water and the vines grew well, even before irrigation.

Harvest date: 14 February 2024

Winemaking: After the short truck ride from the vineyard to the winery, the grapes were destemmed and chilled to 12˚ C at the crusher before a 24hr cold soak pre-fermentation. Cool ferment temperature allowed for bright fresh fruit flavour retention. Gentle treatment through cool ferment involved minimal 'handling' of the fruit, with oxygen injection into the ferment 3 times daily to keep the 'cap' wet and extract flavour, colour, and tannins from the skins. After 8 days ferment on skins, the wine was pressed to seasoned oak for 3 months before early bottling.

Nose: Lifted bright red berry fruits with elegant spicy notes.

Palate: Medium bodied palate shows generous cherry fruits with earthy spice. Soft oak tannins complement the fruit structure and give length to the finish. An approachable wine showing great generosity of varietal fruit flavour.

Cellaring; Drink now to 2029

Upvote from me, your previous Pinot Noir releases have been fantastic

Thanks. Great value Pinot is a rarity. I’ve not yet tasted this vintage as I’m traveling but wouldn’t put our name to it if it wasn’t good enough. Cheers! RD :-)

  • I was just lamenting the lack of good pinot deals lately, this is a great price.

Thanks @freefall101. I’ve not tasted it yet but did have a 2023 a few nights ago and it was fantastic. I think you’ve mentioned about a lack of Pinot Noir deals so thought I’d drop this new vintage.

Likely to be the only time we offer it, however, So a good idea to option up if you’re pulling the trigger :-)

  • Grabbed a case. Haven’t had a Pinot from you guys yet so very interested to see how it turns out.

@avinit86 enjoy. It’s no premier cru burgundy but it’s a bloody great everyday Pinot Noir :-)

      • Thats exactly what we’re after!

  • I got bitten by a bad box of gsms, but happy to risk on a good value pinot & help local producers. Our pinots usually don't last more than 2 years and is hard to get anything of good value older than 2y these days. Also, we are running low so I hope these are good value to go down straight away jkk

  • @takemymoney don't recall offering a GSM on here or if I did I have long since forgotten! :-)
And yes, it very much is a drink now Pinot. Enjoy! RD :-)

    • Ow no, not from you folks! I mean recently got a bad box , so I'm a bit sceptical atm. Sorry can't edit the oringal msg.

      • @takemymoney phew! :-)

    Hi Richard

I know you said you haven’t tried the 2024 vintage yet but wondering what is your thoughts on how this is likely to compare to the Lakeside Pinot Noir?

Also when would it be dispatched? Not in a hurry, in fact would prefer a slight delay as we are currently travelling.

    Thanks

  • @Wac the Lakeside and Bec Hardy were one and the same. Different labels for different markets. No need for Lakeside now so all under the one label. Cheers! RD :-)

    • Thanks ordered a dozen

  • Richard, thanks ordered a case last night.. never had a bad drop from you guys. Appreciate the free postage- all helps.

    • Thanks @SW12 - hope you enjoy! RD :-)

  • What do the wine critics say about this? The Wine Front is my go to, but nothing on their site.

@Barnesworth It has only recently been bottled, therefore, not one wine writer has seen this vintage. As I remarked earlier this is not a 98pt grand cru burgundy it is a 90-92pt everyday value Pinot Noir at $12/bottle. Hope that helps. Cheers! RD :-)

@RD ADL bechardys reputation is on the line! Have some bludging UK relatives visiting soon for 3 weeks. Have ordered a dozen of these and a dozen of the clean skin chardonnays. You guys have never let me down. So much better than the gamble at the local bottleo. Your online ordering is slick. Thanks for supporting us here on OZB.
