Replacing Windows for a Sunroom

I have aluminium floor to ceiling windows in my sunroom. The glass looks paper thin and given it's aluminium frame - I assume it doesn't do a good job insulating the room.

2 sides of the sunroom are gyprock with insulation while the other 2 sides are mainly the windows but 10-20% of the wall surface area is brick.

I'm looking for something that provides insulation and privacy, I received one quote from Prestige Plus in Sydney for ~$5k for 2x1.8m frosted window including installation and removal. Does anyone else have recommendations for Sydney? I'm also awaiting a quote from ecovue

Is it even worth getting uPVC frames and double glazed windows for insulation purposes or will insulation still be poor because of the brick walls?

      • SunOS was much better for a sun room….

  • Does a sunroom work if the glass lets through less heat?

    • This is my aim to convert it to a more livable area in extreme weather

    What did Prestige Plus say?

    • I didn’t ask that question but They don’t seem very responsive to questions. I asked a couple other questions and they dodged them asking if I wanted to proceed to survey stage which requires a deposit. Needless to say I’m not gonna proceed with them

  • Look at using twinwall sheets.

  • Need to find the depth of the frame (the maximum glass width it can take).

If relatively new, it should take up yo 7mm with no alterations.

Look at 6.4mm neutral comfort glass. Not cheap but will allowthe sun in without the uv. Insulation factor is greater than most double glazing.

    • how can i find the depth of the frame?

The windows are probably 15+ years old.

      • Open the window and measure. Alternatively get a glazier to come out and have a look. 15 years and aluminium should be able to take 5mm thick glass. Double check when getting quotes. There are plenty of r factor comparison guides to help pick best glass

  • Is the room too hold or too cot?

Cheapest option might just be to have the existing windows tinted. It wont be great insulation but will help a bit and can also help with privacy.

    • both - in the summer it gets too hot and in the winter it's too cold. I did look at tinting and I might try tinting on my front of house windows but i don't think tinting will get the job done for the sunroom
