Is this worth it in 2024 or should I go for M3?

Comments

  • I bought m3 in same similar sizing for 2.7k previously…

    • M3 or m3 pro?

I have the M1 Pro 14" model too and it's still really good, haven't even thought of upgrading. Not sure I'd pay that price for it now though.

If you don't use heavy softwares on MacBook, you don't even need the Pro version. In fact, most people only use their laptop for light use such as watching videos, listening to music, office use, etc.

    All depends on use case

  • According to CPU Monkey, the M3 has better single-core performance, but the M1 Pro has better multi-core performance. Not surprising considering the M1 Pro has a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU compared to an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU on the M3.

  • I have the M1 pro 16" and I can't faulty it in any way. But I guess it depends on your use case.
I even started emulating switch games using ryujinx and works amazing.

The 512GB would not be enough for me. I have the 1TB version.

  • What something is worth to me or someone else, may not be worth it to you.

With that being said, the M1 chip was released in late 2020, so it's only four years 'old'.

M1 Macbook Air user. 3 years strong and no need to update. I consider myself a power user; yes when I'm video editing it slows down on multiple 4k streams, yes I can't play all the PC games I would like to, but overall I'm very happy

I have M1 Pro, it's great, not even thinking about an upgrade.

Yes it's worth it. The M1 is good, the M1 Pro is so much better. Though whether it's worth it at this price I wouldn't know.

The M1 chip is powerful enough for casual use, except for heavy production processes. In my case, I will wait for Apple’s AI functionality and a better, longer-lasting, and faster AI chipset after the M4.

M1 pro 14" is the best laptop I've had. Way more power than I need. And I can play civilisation 6 with silent fans (not that it is a power intensive game but make playing it so much more relaxing)
