Shopback Youfoodz 90% cashback legit?

Got an email from shopback claiming 90% cashback. Only valid for today (another 8 hours)

I am simultaneously sceptical and intrigued. But figured I'd ask if anybody has tried this or is it just a waste of time/engineered to get rejected? I get the impression shopback has gotten increasingly contentious lately.

The "Any exceptions will be at the store's discretion." is a pretty good get out. Anyway like I said appreciate I'm dreaming but hey, figured I'd ask.

Its common for subscription purchases to offer huge discounts off your first ( or first few) orders. They are hoping that you continue the service.

They are hoping that you forget to cancel the service.

    • Fair point - definitely seen that on others, but never seen it on youfoodz before!

I remember getting a free box code from youfoodz ages ago, basically all of them went through that at some point.

I used to use a lot of these meals in a box, but I never found one that didn't gradually go downhill. Now I just spend half an hour doing actual meal planning and do a lot of shopping at the butcher/fruit and veg stores nearby.

Company is owned by Hellofresh now.

Lance Giles is still the bloody CEO.

    • I only support companies whose founders are racists.

    • Cool story, I’m Asian and will still use their service

      • Username does not check out
        .

        • Asian people aren’t allowed to have Joe Bogan as a username?

  • Decided to give it a go, nothing tracked yet

    • any luck now? i didn't pull the trigger, but curious incase it comes up again

      • +1

So far I'd say avoid like the plague. I put in an order, didn't track. Probably going to be a long time before the dispute moves forward, and of course I bet they'll refuse to give me the 90% rate because Youfoodz charges you shortly before they send the box, not on the same date you put the order in.

      • +2

Didn't track. I had to lodge a report with Shopback. Will update if they actually pay up.

  • +1

I put in for a big order from these guys, and I have a feeling I'm about to get shafted. Despite using their app to put the order in, it didn't track. Flagged it as a missing cashback, and of course their disclaimer that it can take 'upto 180 days' is super reassuring. 6 months to get a cashback resolved, great.

I suspect the problem is that Youfoodz doesn't charge you on the spot, they charge you shortly before they ship a box. I also suspect that Shopback will attempt to give me a cashback based on the charge date, rather than the date I put the order in, and dodge the 90% cashback.

I'd love to hear if anyone actually got their 90% tracked.

    • +4

I didn't get mine tracked for this 90% deal. I used the shopback app on my phone and it didn't get tracked even though it clearly stated "tracking cashback" on the youfoodz page. However my friend used shopback on his computer desktop and it tracked.

@gotyourback could you please pass this feedback to shopback or look into this matter, thanks.

    • +2

what a beautifully kafkaesque setup. If that is indeed the reason, and given the deal was available for 24 hours, this would basically not be redeemable.

So far no story of this tracking successfully

      • +1

        Right?

And it's a substantial amount of money, depending on how large an order (I bought 30 meals lol). The value is awful if you don't get the cashback, so I'm tempted to take the issue up with my local tribunal (ACAT) if they don't play ball.

        • +1

I'd be interested to know if there was any customer who was able to successfully claim this.

        • How much did you spend?

          • @Ziggy28: Like $200, after using the shopback whitelisted coupon for free delivery.

Like, they don't taste bad but they're very small. It works out to be like $25/kg maybe? Depending on the size of the order. When you can get frozen or chilled meals from colesworth for half that, it's just nowhere near worth it.

            • +1

@Grazz989: That's like $180 cashback! If youfoodz don't pay up, it's as good as false advertising and fraud

              • @Ziggy28: Also one of the meals came busted open, leaked gravy everywhere …

                • @Grazz989: Hope you called Youfoodz to complain. They will likely send a replacement

  • mine not tracked eitherr (19 meals)

  • There was a similar deal running a few months ago also with ShopBack, but for 80% or something. It tracked correctly for the correct amount, but suprise suprise, when it finally got confirmed it seemed to have been reduced significantly to the amount awarded for existing customers. I put in a claim with ShopBack two weeks ago. Theyre still working on it. If i didnt bother to check i wouldve forgotten about it. So poor.

  • Mine just got rejected! No reason given

    • Send an email to Shopback to appeal. It was clearly stated there was a 90% cashback.

      • I have. Challenge is Youfoodz never sent me an snail confirmation and I just requested invoice from app and it’s dated 15/8 (delivery date)

        • +1

You can call them Youfoodz and request confirmation of the order and have them email it to you. Then Email to shopback with as much evidence as possible. Hope you get your cashback!

          • +1

@Ziggy28: Thanks. Will try this. Shopbsck have had these guys as a merchant so they must know how they operate. Probably just hope most people don’t dispute the rejected claims

  • +1

Shopback has refused mine also, claim youfoodz said no despite being provided screenshots of app showing cashback tracked

    • +1

Said same to me. And offered to pay Cashback as goodwill gesture. But only 30%. Said it should be 90%. They said send proof you are a new customer by sending order history. Did that and they said actually good will gesture is only at the existing customer rate! I have the general managers email address first anyone wants it

      • Well you got further than me. Despite completing the entire transaction from start to finish inside the shopback app and providing screenshots to prove it, ive had the appeal rejected with the "its not up to us, its youfoodz" line. Absolute blatant con bordering on deceptive conduct if they jad no intention of honouring it.

        • Yeah I got the same… Keep pushing

        • Potential Legal Violations from shopback and youfoodz:

Misleading and Deceptive Conduct (Australian Consumer Law - Section 18):

Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), businesses are prohibited from engaging in conduct that is misleading or deceptive, or likely to mislead or deceive. Shopback's promotion of the cashback offer, without fulfilling the terms after customers made qualifying purchases, potentially breaches this section.
False or Misleading Representations (ACL - Section 29):

This provision prohibits making false or misleading representations about the availability of benefits or promotions. If the promotion was not intended to be honored, or if there were undisclosed conditions affecting eligibility, this would be a clear violation.
Unconscionable Conduct (ACL - Section 21):

Businesses must not engage in conduct that is unconscionable, which includes failing to honor promotions that were advertised and led to consumer purchases in good faith.

  • +1

Ill be taking it up with OFT if they dont honour it

  • +2

Keep pushing back. Just got this :

Our team had a look at your case and after a strict case-by-case review, I am happy to share that on this occasion, I am able to get the approval to compensate your rejected cashback amount for Youfoodz as goodwill at 90% and this will be reflected in your account within 5 days as “pending”.

Whilst an apology will regrettably not alter the outcome of your experience on this occasion, I do extend it with sincerity.

  • +2

Got the 90% paid out today. Don’t take no for an answer

    • That's great to hear. My missing Youfoodz cashback was under "calculating" a few days ago. The actual amount has now shown up as being tracked, but would only be confirmed by 22 Sept.

  • Got this email back after being rejected for a missing cash back claim, and a follow up email showing my click / order history even the photos of the boxes arrived.

    "Dear x,

I trust this message finds you well. Your continued support means a lot to all of us at ShopBack.

Unfortunately, <Youfoodz> won't process rewards for your recent order due to recent updates. This decision is influenced by factors like attribution to another marketing channel.

Some other factors that may affect your cashback may also include:-

    • Clicking on another Chrome extension after clicking from ShopBack
    • Opening other web pages (including search sites, social media, store sites, promotional/discount sites) or web browsers after clicking through ShopBack
    • Clicking through to another page from a banner, pop-up, or advertisement on the store’s webpage while shopping
    • Antivirus/Cleanup or Adblocker applications blocking or disrupting Cashback tracking (Tracking cookies are required to track transactions)
    • Clicking on a banner/promo that appears on the Merchant's site after clickthrough from ShopBack

Please keep in mind that transactions with merchant partners, whether through ShopBack or otherwise, are subject to the partner's terms and conditions, covering returns, cancellations, exchanges, and shipping policies. ShopBack does not operate as an agent of any merchant partner, and their operations are beyond our control. Any engagement with their offers is a direct understanding between you and the merchant partner, and we assume no liability for any aspect of such interactions.

Should you have further questions or require assistance, please feel free to reach out. Your understanding in this matter is genuinely appreciated.
    Kind Regards,

Looks like a fraud and scam practice from Youfoodz and shopback is saying they have nothing to do with this.

    • Just tell them your not accepting that and you want to escalate it

      • +1

Got my 90% off cash back approved after sending this message:

The explanation from Shopback and Youfoodz, citing "recent updates" and "attribution to another marketing channel," is not only vague but also contradictory to my purchasing behavior. I kindly request a more detailed explanation of why my cashback has been denied, especially considering that I adhered strictly to the guidelines.

Furthermore, it is unacceptable for Shopback to refuse responsibility when the 90% cashback promotion was clearly marketed within the Shopback app. Denying my claim after promoting this offer constitutes misleading and deceptive conduct under Australian Consumer Law. Specifically:

Additionally, I have found multiple reports from other customers on online forums who have experienced similar rejections after following the terms and conditions correctly. This widespread issue suggests a pattern of behavior that is both dishonest and unlawful.

If this matter is not resolved satisfactorily, I will have no choice but to escalate it to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and Fair Trading, as I believe this reflects unfair and misleading business practices.

        • Nice one. I went down the M&D path too :)

        • +1

          Thanks for that mate.

I realised that they're sending everyone boilerplate responses when they rejected my cashback with the exact same email JZL above got, so I more or less copy/pasted your response.

I'll report back with how it goes.

        • I got this useless response back: "Firstly, I would like to apologize on behalf of ShopBack for the unpleasant experience you had with us regarding the rejected missing cashback report you submitted. We strive to provide fast and friendly service to every customer, and we regret that we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion.

The reason we were unable to credit the cashback to your account for this purchase is that we received information indicating that your purchase was not attributed to ShopBack. In the majority of rejected cashback cases, this is because orders were not recorded or did not comply with the merchant's terms and conditions, making them unattributable to ShopBack.

Several factors could affect cashback tracking, including:

          • Clicking on other web pages, promotional pages, or chrome extensions after clicking on ShopBack.
          • Visiting other web pages or apps on your device after clicking via ShopBack.
          • Clicking through to another page from a banner, pop-up, or advertisement on the store's website.
          • Cashback tracking being disabled or interrupted by anti-virus/cleaning or adblocking apps (Tracking cookies are required to track transactions).
          • Orders being subject to the merchant's exclusions, such as the use of non-ShopBack promo codes.
          • Completing multiple transactions with one click. We recommend clicking through to ShopBack separately for each new item.
          • Emptying the shopping cart before proceeding with any click-through to ShopBack.

We want you to enjoy your shopping experience with us, and we hope these pointers will assist you in successfully tracking your next cashback. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact our team. Your feedback is essential to us as we continuously strive to improve our customer service.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we will take your feedback into account for future improvements.

Thank you for your continued support, and please reach out if you have any more questions or concerns."

I basically said that was also unacceptably vague, that it gives two mutually exclusive explainations, and is a copy/paste boilerplate that shows they're not taking it seriously. I asked for it to be escalated and suggested I'd take them to ACAT (ACT version of NCAT).

Not sure if that was the best response, but holy crap the gall to give two boilerplate fob-off responses.

Edit: I did use the app, and mentioned that of course.
