Wow you've been beaten! How do you feel.

Nice but for $1.38 difference I would pick Amazon AU for delivery speed and warranty.

  • Not bad, cheapest I got was 3600 C18 for $200 a few months ago with a wireless 1 coupon.

    • 3200/C16 = 3600/C18 anyway

      • Apparently 3600 is best on AMD but I am sure difference IRL is negligible.

Latency is the same but data transfer rate is less @ 3200

  • Why do you guys need so much?

    • +2

Because it feels good when you have more

I use this in my server. I don’t use all of it but on average I use around 32gigs at idle so I have another 32 spare for more docker containers or VMS!

      • What is using so much ram? I bought a 32GB stick recently to use as a ramdisk for transcoding, but at idle it was only sitting at 2GB (excluding the unused memory cache that linux keeps around)

        $ free —giga
total used free shared buff/cache available
        Mem: 58 2 22 0 33 55
        Swap: 0 0 0

        • Am I missing something? Why use a RAM disk for transcoding and not just RAM? It's not 1987 and we're booting off a 360k floppy and jumping around the room because we turned 32k of our 512k RAM into a RAM disk so we now have a C: drive for the first time.

        • I run a few minecraft servers, a DayZ server, Jellyfin and associated containers, Immich, ollama… probably a few more I’m missing

      Chrome

    • I'm compensating

  • The cheapest I got was $171 for 3600 C18 from Amazon AU in October last year, but it was limited to a strange maximum order of 3 kits per account.

  • Question for tech experts. Which do you think is more useful? Faster RAM, e.g. DDR5 vs DDR4, or more ram, e.g. 32GB vs 16GB (assuming you had to choose faster or more, but not both).

It's important to highlight that you can't just swap out DDR4 for DDR5. The motherboards and CPUs are compatible with either DDR4 or DDR5 generally.
But in terms of clock speed versus capacity, it depends what you're doing really. If you're only playing games and you're worried about every possible frame you might care about picking a decently high clock rate and wouldn't need much capacity. If you work on the PC and you like to have a bunch of apps open and 200 tabs in Chrome then the extra capacity is likely to be helpful

This depends entirely on what you are doing so it's impossible to answer simply. Memory speed/timings are probably the most complex aspect of all PC enthusiast topics that affect mainstream users.

The size matters mate. Doesn't matter what your Mrs tells you about your speed.

    • If you don't know then more RAM would be better than faster

  • A good deal on ddr5 for zen 5 would be great.

    • -1

A good deal on X for Y would be awesome.

    • a good deal on 13900k for am4 would be great.

  • Thanks got a set, huge upgrade from my 16gb 2600hz set
