eufy Wireless Motion Sensor, Add On (T8910C21) $39.99 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Supercheap Auto

530

Seems SCA is running another 20% off EUFY promo.
YMMV - as many items are much cheaper elsewhere for example eufy Security Eufycam 3 4K Wireless Home Security System (4-Pack) $1189 at Device deal as per this post here.

I've been after these little motion sensors for a while and I think is a reasonable price - iirc I havent seen it cheaper. Note: You will need a compatible home base - the sensor cannot be used as a stand alone device Will see if JB hifi can price match and then let me pay for uber delivery as I want them today. Bunnings only has this one as a special order - not sure you can get price beat on it (happy to be corrected). Amazon does not currently have any stock either listed.

Also as @giant dwarf pointed out below - the unit is NOT IP rated - so keep it under an eave or similar if going outside.

  • Also, they are not IP water resistant as well. Keep them out of the rain

yeah forgot to put that in the post - thanks I've updated. I was going to put mine under eaves, but might see if i can 3d print a shroud for it to give it a bit of protection.

    • +3

I 3D printed an outdoor bracket for one (extremely snug fit with a protruding rain guard) and it has happily withstood fairly heavy rainfall while staked into the ground (I use it as a catchall for driveway movement that forces a camera to begin recording)

Of course, I'm doing this at my own risk and can't guarantee that it would work for others or withstand sideways rain.

      • I was thinking about pulling one apart later today in my workshop and assess entry points and silicone inside at possible water ingress points and then yeah do something similar with a body with shroud. I have some spikes I can adapt to work with my intended design .

Thanks OP, grabbed a pair of extra 2c add-on cameras
Used 7% off gift card from health insurer, and local council offering $300 rebate on security items so will end up costing me about $42 😁

    • +1

      Which council is that?

      • +1

Google says a couple in Perth.

        Cool idea!

        • -4

Just means council rates go up higher.. so means anyone new buying a camera benefits i guess..

          • +2

@richmond12: How dare they try and improve their council area!
            Scumbags!

        • Canning for me
Did it last year for the home base and 2 cameras

          • @Lonewolf1983: I thought one of the conditions was that equipment is installed by an accredited electrician?
Didn't realise plug n play gear is now included

            • +1

@liam2040: depends on the council, different rates for different things
I ended up only getting $80 off as i didnt read the fine print (they changed it from last year) - still cant complain

I bought some random electrical housing and drilled a ~1cm hole and placed this thing inside. This sensor is not up against the hole, but maybe about 1cm away from it.

Now it acts like a beam across my driveway, and I use it to trigger the cameras to turn on if anything crosses the beam.
    Driveway is about 5m wide.

Have had mine outside for a number of yrs now, and no problems. Greatly reduces false positives with the street facing cameras.

    • great idea - i do have access to various electrical wholesalers I could hit up - but id much rather waste like 2 hours in tinker cad/ prototyping and printing in PETG just to justify my 3d printer setups haha

    • did you do any other waterproofing like a plastic film from here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_Uiq72T9AU

  • Anyone know a cheap way to get a homebase 3?

  • +1

Thanks OP, been looking for something like this for a while.

  • Anyone rigged these to a siren or strobe?
    Or smoke/fire sensors?

    • Homebase is the siren but I’m still thinking of how I could easily amplify the sound - as is it’s a pretty sad siren - I want to put the fear of god into any intruders lol … maybe tape a cheap mic in front connected to an always on speaker.

    • +1

There is a Eufy siren now (as well as smoke detector and water/freeze sensors).

I have two of the sirens and they work well but still aren't really loud enough. However, combined with the Homebase Alarm and alarms from all the cameras it's enough overall.

I have it configured so that if anything is triggered then ALL devices set off their alarms.

I was wondering if I could somehow roll my own strobe, ideally flashing between blue and red.. and make it smart enabled for remote control. Kinda useless during the day though hmm

      • ESP32-S3-Matrix , flash wled onto it, they are bright as (profanity) and cost 17 bucks on aliexpress

      • Esp home via HA, most wifi / ble led strips are cheap

  • What's this do for you? I only have Eufy battery powered cameras.

    • You can wire it up to force your cameras to start recording, as a failsafe if you want to absolutely capture movement in an area.

I think you can also have it on a time based trigger, so that at night it can make your homebase scream bloody murder if it detects movement

      • Oh yeah smart. I'm fighting my Eufy's motion detection at the moment, it's capturing cars driving past no matter how much I've configured the settings and activity zones and I've moved the camera 3 or 4 times already.
I don't think this will help me unfortunately but good to know.

        • @theguyrules same issue ive got and had for a while with no solution:(

        • Do you have Homebase 3? with HB 3 you can turn off vehicle detection

    • +2

I primarily wanted them in a stairs between up and downstairs as secondary layer of detection from intruders. I’d say it’s very hard to get into my place without being picked up on one of the cameras but just in case I guess.

Have energex locked my switch board too…

These are pretty useful if you have home automations setup via home assistant, etc.
Motions from these turn on our kitchen feature lights at night if we head down the hallway.
Battery usage is great. Have not needed to be changed in over two years.

Now thinking about securing one inside our letterbox to notify me of mail. I always forget to check the mailbox…

    • Just using the standard Eufy integration?

      • Standard Eufy app wont allow for communicating with other systems like HomeKit or Google. Requires a raspberry pi or similar to run home assistant to handle the communication between services. Maybe IFTTT if the services support it.

        • I mean the Eufy integration for Home Assistant, yes

    • +2

I was about to mention that tip about mail notifications.

  • +1

you can also just get a zigbee PIR sensor from aliexpress for 4 bucks

  • looks like Bunnings have price matched - https://www.bunnings.com.au/eufy-security-motion-sensor_p023…

  • +1

Thanks OP, priced match with JBHifi which has better stock levels nearby for me. Bunnings has price matched but is a special order item.

Have it installed out the front of the house between my two 2c cameras and set it to trigger both cameras when motion is detected. My cameras now records when someone is at my letter box which is great.
