Cleaning Bowdens Wash Pads and Big Green Suckers etc

I have a range of Bowdens car cleaning stuff and yes they ain’t that cheap, but they sell almost everything and have hardly missed anything out in their range of stuff. They say best to use their microfibre wash they sell which I understand as a business you will want to promote all your items. And yes, I have been spending a small fortune on their items.

But have you used anything else to wash your big green suckers or other stuff that’s just as good but cheap.

They mention to not use your day to day power etc. It always says to wash even when buying them and before first use I would but I just don’t have time as I wash car tomorrow and I’m away for 3 weeks after that. I’m sure they be fine from new as not used. But I definitely would want to wash them after I use them tomorrow.

I will be using big green sucker and either a shag wash pad or Bowdens wash pillow and would want to keep them as long as I can as they ain’t cheap. Probably is they say dryer for some items hard when you don’t have one

  • I have used a couple microfibre products from aliexpress. If you buy from well reviewed sellers, you will get some decent quality for the price. I think I bought a towel that was 1200gms 30x90cm and its completely lint free. I'm not sure about the durability but so far still going pretty strong.

Yeah first time you use it they drop lint if you dont wash.

I just wash in dish soap, or aldi has a $4 liquid laundry detergent.

I would not put it in the same machine you wash your clothes in as some car washes may contain chemicals you dont want on your undies. I also wonder if things that leave water repellent coatings on your car maybe shouldnt mix with your clothes.

Personally I just hand wash in a bucket/sink. But I now have a spare washing machine so am looking forward to setting it up to wash my car and other kinds of nasty cloths

    • Never thought about the chemical side of things they would not be washed with my clothes anyway I be more worried doing harm to my machine as an expensive one.
Maybe good old bucket or use the laundry sink will be good and hand wash it.
I did end up buying a bottle of microfibre wash from Bowdens but going forward I may want to use something cheaper.
I was going to use boss gloss after washing it by hand but might leave it this time and maybe do next time I just want to give car a general snow job and hand wash for now as car ain’t that old or that dirt.

      • Yeah exactly - either way I'd wash separate to my clothes too. But I worry that some of the elements that leave a nice coating on your car, might also leave a coating on your machine which would later transfer to your clothes. Good idea with bucket or sink imo.

  • I do not wash dryer towels like the big green sucker as they are used to dry a clean car. I hang them on the clothes line to air dry.

I hand rinse the wash mitts in a bucket to expel the dirt they picked up and spin dry them in the machine, then line dry. It doesn't make sense (to me) to wash the mitts as they are already soaked in detergent.

      What if they get dirty?

      • If they drop on the ground, I'd soak and hand wash it with water only.

  • I use Coles wool detergent. Soak in a bucket and rinse well, then put it in a delicates bag and run a spin in the washing machine. I tried drying it once without spinning and it would not dry on the clothesline, it holds too much water even after wringing it out by hand.

Coles wool wash is $2/L is a great alternative for microfibre towels, it doesn't diminish the microfibre strands.

Nowadays I use a microfibre cloths from costco. After each wash I use a new cloth to dry the panels, door jams then wheels in that order. I then wash and re-purpose the cloth for other work. I use a new cloth to dry the car each time which works out to be about 80c each time. Keeping contaminants out of a drying towel and washing seperately is too much of a pain i've found. And they will lose absorbancy over time.

    • Yup I do the same. Exactly that.

I find its cheaper in the long run rather than using the same cloth which knowing my luck with have a tiny speckle on it which will cause a scratch.

  • But have you used anything else to wash your big green suckers or other stuff that’s just as good but cheap.

I normally just wash in water only, every now and then I use the microfibre wash.

The trick is to wash just the car cleaning clothes by themselves, not in with your other washing.

  • Are they cheap?

      They ain't.
