haha maybe USB Hub Switcher would be better?
Switching hub even better.
Single USB-A 3.2 port version also available for half this price.
I have an earlier 4 port USB 2.0 version and it works fine.
PSA: Ugreen (still) use a USB-A M-M cable which can be very dangerous if they escape in the wild.
Why are they dangerous?
Pretty sure they can short the power lines if you connect two powered devices together
TIL: Someone uses quora.
I'm using something from Ugreen for half the price ($22).
It has 4x 2.0 USB-A ports instead of the 3xA and 1xC (and is that a Micro USB port?!). Loss of a single USB-C, but I think the tradeoff in most cases is worth it.
Ditto using that one as well. Though, I'm tempted to get this so I can get the switch off my desk.
Looks like mini-b for the switch.
I had totally missed the the switch in the post has a remote control :/
I’ve put mine upside down under the desk attached with velcro tape in a convenient location. cables also stay hidden and attached under the desk. Neat and convenient. Had to use a usb extension cable though.
I have the same one, it works great but the design of it makes neat cable management almost impossible. You obviously need the switch with arms reach, but with the cables coming out both sides its very hard to place it somewhere where the cables arent in the way. Wish the input and output was all on the back.
This is my biggest gripe with it too :(
I've got the same one(but usb 3.0), what I did was got a bit of double sided tape and stuck it behind the monitor, out of sight but still easy to reach to press the button.
damn most of my devices are still USB-A so Im down 1.
I have this too and loving it.
do you need to connect the micro usb 5v to power it or does it work without? most reviews im reading says it doesnt need to be powered.
Are you asking me?
Doesn't need external power. For the $22 one.
You don't have to, but depends what you have plugged into it. I've had issues with keyboards that have LEDs, even when plugged in to power.
Depends what you connect.
IIRC, it didn't play will with my webcam connected so I moved it off the switch. I haven't tried it with external power connected.
Oh, that reminds me. The switch I have doesn't play nice with a simple wired Jabra headset.
I found these switches don't provide enough power to power the led's on my keyboard so maybe keep that in mind.
I got around it though by using the pass-through on my monitor.
The USB switch is designed with a USB-C charging port for high-power devices
That doesn't help when plugging in a keyboard though.
For what it's worth, my HyperX RGB keyboard is running off one of these right now fine - the only other thing plugged in though is the USB mouse receiver. Only had it for a week though.
The charging port should provide any extra power required for devices that need a lot of juice. An LED keyboard should work fine without that though - I have the 4xA version and it works completely fine with my keyboard and a few other devices.
I have the older USB 3.0 with 4x USB A ports, plugging in a 2A charger to the power port makes no difference. It can't power a Razer Black widow v4 + wireless mouse+ microphone+ Razer kiyo pro, if the camera is on then the switch will disconnect/reconnect randomly.
Also, if your HDMI cable from monitor goes to Docking station and usb male from docking station goes to switcher. There is likely you will face monitor going off automatically on both mac m1 (not sure about mac intel) and window 10.
For monitor switching, I found a dedicated Display Port switch to be more useful.
Isn’t the ‘charging port’ meant for power in or power out?
As in can this hub be ‘powered’ so that it can handle more power hungry usb devices?
Same. Issues with iCue when my K95 XT keyboard is connected to the switch.
Does anyone know a good switcher that would handle displayport/thunderbolt (usb 4) as well? That doesn't cost an arm?
To be able to switch between laptop and monitor.
Thanks
Is there an advantage over the Simplecom km420? https://www.centrecom.com.au/simplecom-km420-2-port-hdmi-kvm…
Sir, this is a Wendy'sUSB switch.
I had a bunch of issues with this where itd just freeze the mouse for a few seconds every few minutes. Made it unusable.
Any chance you are using a Windows laptop unplugged? Check Power Profile setting and disable USB switch off.
I've had that problem with Razer wireless mice, fine with Logitech wireless though.
Another scenario, is when my Razer webcam is active, it sometimes glitches randomly every couple minutes.
Try changing the polling rate on the mouse from 1000 to 500, that worked for me at least.
I'm using this one at the moment. Highly recommend this as it's much faster than any other one I have used before. Others usually take at least 3 seconds to switch while this one only takes 1 second.
Thanks - just bought one
I actually bought this yesterday and sent it back today, failed to provide sufficient through power to flick between my laptop and pc for some SteelSeries headphones.
Even when supplying it with extra power via the USB C input?
Yeah unfortunately for me, not functional. I’ve had a few U Green cables that have been good, but had more issues with their ‘Gadgets’. Had to send back a power adapter and power bank.
welp, I just bought one, will see how we go
got mine, using it and it's been great so far. possibly lucked out with good QC. No disconnecting issues for me so far…
@Bacons: Glad to hear it man!
I have this. It works. However separate control switch has bad connection for me and does not work. Trying to get a return or replacement. Anyone seen a way of using a different DIY switch control? The small separate button thing
i need cheap kvm that does 2 x 4k monitors. desktop and laptop (usb-c).
Cool story bro.
Like this one? Note only 4k 60hz https://www.centrecom.com.au/simplecom-km420-2-port-hdmi-kvm…
nah it supports 1 hdmi output "2-Port HDMI switch allows two computers to share one HDMI display"
I wish the seller had a picture of the back of the hub.
It does (partly), anyway it's nothing fancy - 2x USB 3.2 A male and 1x USB-C.
I'm using this exact same one, and I love it. It's being used to power an AT2020+, a Logitech Brio 4k, a Ugreen USB A to AUX adapter and a PS Pulse headset, with no issues.
I'm using the USB-C version of this, which is much neater. You can hide the unit and just use the remote.

So with this, a single USB cable connects to a PC, and passes on both keyboard and mouse (and other connected devices) signals in the one cable?
Bought this with further 20% off just few days ago, still cheaper than UGREEN without the extra discount. NO USB-C.

Adding a dongle button is a pretty smart idea. I have an older model that requires the entire hub to sit on my desk so I can press the switch button on it. The cable management is definitely awkward since you need to connect to the front and back of the hub, resulting in the cables at the front doing an immediate uturn to go back under my desk.
"Switch Switcher"
amazing
