Can I Use Flybuys Points to Earn Flybuys Points?

This may seem obvious but if I get an offer saying “spend $120 to earn 5000 points” etc, can I make the majority of payment for this using existing points to say the value of $80 etc and then use cash etc for the rest and still qualify for the offer?

Thanks in advance.

Let’s see what jv has to say

  • Yes.
Just convert to flybuys dollars and pay via EFT with physical card.

    • Thanks for the feedback.

It sounds like you are talking about Coles. If so…

    In-store

If you have the physical Flybuys card with you, follow what @randomusername2017 said. That is the best option for you.

However, if you instead choose to instantly redeem 2,000 Flybuys points for $10 off your shop, that will not help you. Coles and Flybuys classifies the $10 off as a discount (not a payment method), and Flybuys bonus points offers (e.g. spend $120, earn 5,000 bonus points) calculate your spend for a given shop after discounts have been applied.

    Online

My understanding is that you cannot do this at the moment. Flypay previously allowed you to redeem up to 10,000 Flybuys points in one online transaction, but Flypay is currently being redeveloped.

Thanks for the response, and the formatting, I seriously didn’t expect that!

Interesting, I have a transaction from June that counted for a 4x$50 offer even though I spent exactly $50 and redeemed $10 off.
In both apps it shows as a $40 spend, however on the paper/PDF receipt, it shows the total as $50 and 'Flybuys $10 off' as a payment method underneath.

Not sure if this is helpful but I have had a few discrepancies with flybys and other transactions. E.g. I have had separate back to back shops show up as one transaction, I have had online transactions be mixed into separate in store transactions that were made days later but purchased on my pickup day. It’s confusing when reviewing flybuys history etc as it’s not always accurate. maybe something similar happened here?

Also had promotions just flat out not work and Cole’s had to manually fix them so I’m guessing the opposite can happen as well?

        • I have also experienced this, but no, in this case I only did one shop that day.

      • Same experience as you.

I just finished off flybuys offer for 4 x $50 spend and I always say yes to redeeming $10 off when they ask, I spend between $50 to $55 (never more than $60) so the calculation is definitely before discount.

  • Alright.

So points added to physical card: yes that will be fine and NOT considered a discount.

Points off: no, that is considered a discount.

    I’m understanding that correctly?

    • Yes. If you use the instant redemption that flashes on the screen you would need to spend an additional $10 to qualify for the spend offer.

      • Thank am for the feedback

Well I just smashed out a $120 shop so I’ll see what comes through in the next 48 hours.

Nothing at the bottom of the receipt but I think you just get that when you are doing a promo across multiple weeks, this was a one transaction promotion.

I hate it how with Woolies you get instant feedback in the rewards app but with Coles you need to wait.

I’ve never risked mixing points and cash/giftcards when making Coles purchases on promos as in the past I found the systems they use are pretty wonky and if anything goes wrong with a promo it can take weeks to fix or an unjustified amount of emailing and phone calls…

To update anyone who is interested: Points came through today!

    • Cheers for the update.

I was about to ask the same question.

I got an $80 spend for 3200 points. I've already got just over $80 onto my Flybuys card.

      • Can’t guarantee it will work if you do the whole thing just on flybuys but good luck. Think I paid about $20-40 of the transaction in cash.

      • I think you can use the points you converted into dollars fro your whole purchase. If partial payment worked then full payment will also. It is considered a payment method. Do not use the instant redemption that flashes on the screen which is viewed as a voucher/discount.
