Best Foreign Exchange Rates for cash??

I already use a 28 Degrees card overseas, This time I need hard currency before I leave because it is a pain finding an ATM in Japan.

ATM in Japan: go to 7-11s or Japan Post.

  I think the issue is more that most general use ATMs don't allow foreign cards. The ATMs in 7-Eleven (everywhere) and Japan Post do.

If you're in sydney then these guys are pretty good. They're located on top of Citibank building diagonally opposite Town Hall. Don't go too late in the day because they run out of currency.

I have a question:
I have a foreign credit card and I would like to covert it to AUD. Can I go to currency exchange booths and get them to swipe the card to exchange for AUD without incurring the 'overseas purchases charge'?
