never heard of this thing… do you have one?

    • No, it's something I've been meaning to buy for a while. Bagless Sous Vide.

    • Yes, best thing for my kitchen ever.

We had a shit oven that took hours to get to 230C and for reasons it was not worth getting an oven replaced in the wall. This thing gets to temp in about 2 mins. Has been great.

With Anova removing app support for their original sous vide sticks I'm not buying anything from them again!

While initially I thought it was a bit shitty I reconsidered it since most technological products last around 5 years and theirs did at least 10 I now feel its okay. Also glad I didn't grab any Sonos speakers.

But also the price range just seems too high these days to try any more anova products when their technology has spread out to push the price much lower.

The hardware itself is still working, and all they have to do is publish the Bluetooth communications format it's using, and then other people can write an app for it.

They've chosen not to do that and it's hurt them, hence all the discounts they've started throwing around.

Same here.. it cost them virtually nothing to keep the support. Not buying another product from them again

      • Well in their mind it costs them you not buying a new sous vide stick from them. But I know what you're saying and agree with you.

  • What's the historical low?

I paid 700 2 years ago still going strong

  • Ive heard these have issues .. i wanted one .. initially.

    Analysis of variance.

  • Looks interesting if I had the bench space.

What I don't like is their 3.8 star review rating on their site. Click to load reviews and it only displays the 5 star ones.

You have to filter and choose lower star options and then it will show you the 131 reviews that are 1 star. It is a lot considering they have 840 reviews.

Problems seem to range from not receiving unit, cracked/broken water reservoirs and no customer service to poor controls, temp settings being wrong and too complicated to use.

I had one of their first generation models and got mine replaced after the water container started leaking. Got sent a brand new one and it's been flawless since. All the current ones will be the updated models

Is the bagless sous vide legit? I do quite a few sous vide steaks and not needing to vacuum seal and water bath sounds attractive.

    • Yes and for the Asian folks out there, this makes the best rice, if mine breaks I’d buy again just for the fluffiest rice I’ve been enjoying

      • Interesting. Never tried rice in it.

100 degrees, fan mode, 100% steam, 40 mins, turn off let it sit for 10 mins and thank me later :)

      • How do you do it? Just in a bowl?
Proper steamed rice makes for the best fried rice too.

      • Agreed. my mother in law looked at me weird wondering why I'm using my oven tray for rice. It cooks those hainanese chicken rice (premix jars) really well too!

I got this 2 years ago for $680.

Highly rate it. Got rid of my air fryer because this does a way better job at frozen oven food imo and it's so good for proofing and waterless sous vide.

Plus I live getting the preheating started from the couch.
Highly recommend this one, especially since my actual oven is way too big and takes forever to heat up.

    • What settings do you use for frozen food and what tray /rack etc?

This may be the best thing I've purchased for my kitchen. Bagless sous vide works just as well as the real deal, the in-built temperature probe makes cooking meat to perfection super easy, and adding steam is fantastic for a ton of recipes (making bread, reheating leftover pizza, and amazing steam roasted broccoli are my most common uses, among many others). Of all the gadgets I've bought over the years, this is the one I use the most by far, and has made the biggest difference in my kitchen. App control has also saved me from the dreaded "did I forget to turn the oven off?" question a couple times too.

Had mine for around 2 years, and have probably used my real oven like 3 times since. Only issues so far for me is that it can be a bit of a pain to clean if you allow yours to get properly grubby, the interior is just a fraction too small to fit my standard sized baking trays, and my steam drip tray seems to be a tiny bit warped - but it's functioned perfectly fine for the time I've had it. I hear some of the issues have been resolved in the newer models, so hopefully the model from this deal would be even better - and I've heard Anova is pretty good at offering replacements for any issues within the warranty period.
