Allianz are pretty good. Had to make a claim recently due to travel interruptions, and went smoothly with them.

    • Can you plz elloborate on travel intruption? Would they attend to claim If you are sick and cannot travel?

    • Before committing to this its best to go to an insurance comparison site.

15% OFF doesnt mean its cheap.

  • Looks like Allianz are the providers for Citibank credit card customers. Anyone compared their paid travel insurance vs complimentary via credit cards?

I also found peace of mind declaring pre existing conditions and having them approved online via a questionnaire. It is however expensive at $75 per person and even something like having a previous broken arm needs to be declared.

  • Anyone tried getting cover for a pre-existing medical condition with Allianz travel insurance? It says they may cover on assessment, is it an easy process and does it increase from the quoted premium?

    • +2

No one can answer this question really. It’s all individual based. Why don’t you give them a bell?

    • This is a money grab. The assessment is a purely computer one and they charge $75 for a few clicks assessment when you decide to take the insurance. They will cover you for simple conditions like controlled hypertension etc. but will charge you the assessment fee.

So your complimentary travel insurance becomes $75 for the usual medical conditions.

      • +1

That wasn't my experience a couple of months ago. Pre-existing condition covered and no extra fees.

        • How much detail do you have to give them? Did the premium stay the same?

          • @Rain Cloud: Pretty simple. Just filled out the form online and no premium. Given I have something rare (1 in 10m) I wouldn't be surprised if they just brushed it off as something simple.

            • @Clear: Was yours a separate policy or complimentary insurance? I did a quick quote for Allianz as a separate policy with a quote (around $130) and was wondering if premiums went up for that one (not the complimentary card one)

        • It was my experience 3 weeks ago, ANZ plat

        • +2

You can take a gamble and opt not to declare the pre existing conditions if you don't want written travel insurance confirmation. But if you need to claim and for whatever reason they say no, you're screwed.
Some holidays can be quite expensive as it is so the extra $75 per person is worth it

          • +1

            @0 0 0: Agreed and well put.

          • +2

@0 0 0: The assessment to get my pre-existing condition covered with Allianz was free back in April. Not $75. It must be a very, very recent change if you're being charged for it.

            • @Clear: It isn't. The person mentioning it above with their ANZ Plat shows it is a Credit Card Insurance. This is different from a standalone Allianz policy.

              • @Spizz:

I didn't get that from the main comment in a deal on Allianz insurance. Not complimentary insurance with their cc.

                • @Clear: pao2x whom brought it up above mentions it is regards to his ANZ Plat.

                  • @Spizz: Yes several comments after my original comments.

    • +2

Yes. Have used it numerous times for my parents under their ANZ credit card the fee to add pre-existings they had was $75. Well worth it and still cheaper than having to buy a separate policy.

As this is a seperate policy you will need to pay to add a pre-existing and this can vary from free up to hundreds of dollars. Some polices include some pre-existings (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) but for more complex ones all charge.

IMO you would be crazy if you have pre-existings not to get them covered under any insurance policy as they will find any outs to deny insurance. You don't want to be one of those people crowdfunding to get back home because you were denied Insurance because you either didn't have Travel Insurance or didn't declare any pre-existings.

I did this yesterday for our complimentary Citibank Allianz insurance.

It's easy, no physical medical assessment required for us. It's all online and you put in the people you want covered plus the pre existing medical conditions for the travellers impacted. One of our children has anaphylaxis allergies and asthma and has been admitted to hospital in the past 4 weeks for allergic reactions. He was approved and covered. Our other child had a broken arm 3 months ago and he was also covered. They then charged $150 for the two assessments which is a rort but we got written confirmation that everyone in our trip is covered along with the pre existing conditions.

      • For piece of mind well worth it. And when you start looking at individual polices costs with pre existing added on the $75 IMO is a bargain for a total cost.

        • For my ANZ card comp insurance you need to spend $250 in travel related costs before leaving, have a return ticket to Australia, be under 81 years of age to meet the eligibility for it. If you meet all these then take the assessment. The assessment should get your to clarify you meet these things anyway.

I did one for my parents who one had a knee reconstruction several years ago. It added $91 extra to the cover

I foud Tick to be cheaper by $100 even after declaring the condition on Tick

    • +1

Yes, I took out a policy last night with a few pre-existing conditions across myself and my wife. No extra cost, all were covered for the quoted price as they weren't serious enough to warrant extra costs.

I am always to pay extra for Allianz, as their claim process is much smoother than other insurers based on the experiences of my family and friends. Recent feedback on cut price competitors has been somewhat concerning with people out of pocket for tens of thousands of dollars. To me insurance is not only the cover, but your ability and relative ease in claiming.

Example Allianz: Friend's kid fell face first onto concrete around a pool area in south pacific region and had to be rushed to hospital. When claiming, the phone representative reminded my friend to claim things like blood stained clothes, as they would have had to pick them up and run, etc. Allianz couldn't have been more helpful in every aspect.

Example Cheaper Provider (that starts with C): Friend injured themself during boarding of a flight to Europe where there was a huge itinerary of very expensive experiences. Spent a while in a London hospital near Heathrow airport before returning home dealing with the injury. Upon returning home, was unable to claim for the rest of the trip. Estimated claim was to be around $20-35k, they paid out less than $2k.

Other tip - if you have credit card insurance, make sure you do their assessment online before you go and get the certificate of cover, rather than just saying "wheeeeee, I have cover".

  • dumb question: i'm traveling to Italy and France soon, just wondering does travel insurance cover stolen phone/camera/wallet? if yes, how does it work?

    • +1

From the Citibank Allianz cover it covers mobile and camera. I think you need to pay an excess but can't remember. You would need a police report.
There are some general exclusions like if you leave your items unattended and unsecured they won't cover it. Probably also if it is left in a car and visible they won't cover it. If items are left in the boot of a car and stolen from the car without visible forced entry they won't cover it.

So my take is that if you were mugged it would probably be covered or perhaps if it was stolen from a hotel (maybe they'd also expect it to be in the hotel safe). If a gypsy stole it from you whilst having a coffee and you put your phone down maybe you'd be covered as well.

      • +2

Well written. One thing to keep in mind is insurance will ask for numerous things when you claim. Police report, Purchase Receipt, etc. Once the Claim is approved (hopefully) they will then apply any depreciation to the item then less your excess for the claim from the depreciated item and that is what you get back.

      • Thank you! so it really depends on what's in a police report then

  • I always use TID for travel insurance, anyone got anything to say in comparrison between them?

I only had to make a claim once and they were very good, mind you that was back in about 2007.

Price for this is tempting as I'm unable to find any discounts for TID at the moment.

Read both PDS and see which best covers your circumstances.

      • obviously, but I'm here asking for anyone that may have used both and has an opinion

  • Anyone know if there is travel / luggage insurance for one way trip.

  • If you want to do a pre existing medical assessment for Citibank complimentary travel insurance you can do it here
    https://travel.agaassistance.com.au/complimentary/

You don't have to pay until the end and you can cancel out your declarations.

  • Allianz vs Medibank vs Qantas comprehensive travel insurance?

    Would appreciate hearing your thoughts.
My case: annual 45 or 60 days-per-trip policy for USA visits. Also can get a %15 discount as an existing Medibank health insurance customer.

    • +1

To many variables to what suits you and your circumstances. Download each PDS and see which covers your situation best.

What's the cheapest, no frills, worst case scenario medical only option out there. Not interested in personal effects, delays, cancellations cover. I've used Credit Card complimentary for the last many years but ANZ dropping it to 3mths is a bit of a pain. This and the ING change to ATM rebates was a blow.
Safety Wing is pretty expensive but the flexibility is good.

    • +1

For me it’s been InsureandGo (they have a coupon on their website, Google for it), and Tick (you can usually find a coupon, sometimes they don’t expire).

  • Can't seem to make payment - anyone else?

  • if your cc has the travel insurance, do you need this one? truly dumb question but like to know the world

    • You need to compare claim limits and features. I'm guessing compliment credit card insurance has lower limits. Definitely for Citibank Allianz insurance they have shared limits for dependents. So if your kids had iPads, clothing, etc that was lost or stolen, it would come out of your claim limits.

Nice, but site won't even load my quote lol pos

  • If anyone is planning to use Allianz for snow cover, they charge an additional excess fee of $500 for any snow sport related injuries. Better off using another insurer such as TID.

  • Who can afford to travel these days??

    • +3

Pretty much anyone who earns median income and practices fiscal responsibility.

      • By only buying bargains advertised here

  • Good saving, thank you OP

  • Well even with 15% off my quote was nearly 11 thousand, so I might miss this.

  • I usually use tick or similar as it is cheaper, but travelling with my inlaws who have many medical conditions this actually works out cheaper once the medical conditions are declared - plus I feel as they have a higher risk of needing it I am hoping this is a bit more reliable than the other ones (not that I have ever had to claim)

  • Have used Covermore for years but yet to claim! phew!. My recent trip to Eastern Europe with a 7 day cruise out of Dubrovnic came to $4k for a 4.5 week trip.
Age 75 and an irregular heart, wife no issues and 70 but did get 25% off from my TA , I think that was due to being good customers I suspect that is their full margin?.

    • The trip cost was $4k or the travel insurance?

  • +1

It is probably the insurance, once you get into your 70/80 they charge. I do not think that they have realized that now we may be older but with new medical treatments and our lifestyle we do not have one foot in the grave.
