  • For $80 more I wish I got this instead of the 12V DeWalt hammer drill from Supercheap, it runs out of juice so quickly.

    • You obviously did no research at all. The 12v line up odd for cabinetry work in small corners and hanging pictures. 18v line up is for actual house building. Even then some of the 18v line up is pretty weak. Buy the dcd999 on eBay it’s only $156 at the moment.

      • I used it to drill 8 holes into concrete and both batteries died. The advice I got was from Ozbargain regarding the 12V drill and I took the chance.

      • Not quite true, mechanics, plumbers, sparkies love 12v, they are light weight, compact and powerful.
If the aim is to drill holes in masonry then no I would not recommend the dcd999 over this rotary hammer drill, the rotary is far more powerful.

        • Agreed, I was more suggesting an all rounder drill, but if your only ever drilling concrete buy a sds drilli every day. Probably buy a 240v baumer sds, way more power and cheap and comes with some drills and blades.

    • Depends if you already have some tool of each evo system. If not I'd take dewalt

      Dewalt….

    • Somewhat different class of tool.

DeWalt is for drilling only 1.4 joules.

Ryobi for drilling and chiseling at 2.6 joules.

If just using it for drilling, DeWalt is a no brainer.

Even then would suggest the DeWalt plus a cheap corder rotary hammer would be the go (use case dependant ofcourse)

      • Got it, thanks!

    • I have this drill.
Excellent for DIY and obliterates regular hammer drills.

Is Bunnings mistaken about the battery and charger "bonus instore offer"?

It says "T&Cs apply, see www.guaranteedtough.com.au", and if you go to www.guaranteedtough.com.au, this DCH172N-XE hammer drill isn't one of the products with a redemption available.

I held off getting the sander for the same reason (https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-125mm-brushless-xr-ra…).

Anyone know if you actually receive the battery and charger in the store? Because if you have to do it through guaranteedtough.com.au, the form isn't going to let you proceed with these tools.

Someone from 1 of the other posts (think it was impact driver) reported Bunnings gave him the charger and battery at the time of purchase. I’d recommend asking at the trade desk.

The banner says "in store redemption".
The ones needing to go through guaranteed tough website will say "via redemption offer".

  • do these take proprietary drill bits? (not a regular cylinder chuck?)

    • They take SDS Plus bits which are a different standard. Not proprietary as lots of sellers and devices use them but a standard round bit will not fit in chuck.

  • Clearly displays “In Store Offer” and on Bunnings link “go to deal”

  • Anyone know if this can be used as just a straight hammer without rotation? I've got a bunch of home renos coming up which will require the need for a hammer option for lifting tiles and also some channeling in concrete

    • +2

No, this is not great for demo, it has rotary hammer and rotary only modes

    • +2

This doesn't have a chisel only mode

      • bought one in last deal … lack of chisel mode makes it a bit of a nuisance when when working on roofs as need hand chisel or take a different drill … i reno period homes and many are brick .
