Refund on Digital Gift Card

Hi!

Just wondering if anyone has received a refund successfully through paying a Digital Giftcard (that acts like a debit card/credit card). This card is by True Rewards..

Unfortunately I received an email last week saying the retailer ran out on a product and processed a refund, it’s been about 4 business days and I still cannot see the refund credited on my transactions in my app, do you think the $20 refund is gone?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

    I haven't

      I haven't either.

  • It can take up to 90 business days for a refund to show up… but typically they should show up within 5 business days. I'd say two weeks is the more reasonable maximum timeframe.

Did you get an email from their system confirming that a refund has been processed, or has someone just said "we will refund you" in a chat or regular email? I've had cases where customer service would tell me they've refunded an order, but the actual refund wasn't processed until days later (when I received an email from the same system that initially sent me the order details/tax invoice). If you paid via PayPal, they will also send you an email when the actual refund has been processed. The "5 business days" timer for the refund doesn't start until this happens.

    • I believe they have processed the refund because they attached a credit note to the email to confirm it was processed successfully, it says to may take a few days.. hope I do receive it lol

  • I’ve had refunds processed back onto prepaid gift cards a few times before (including digital prepaid gift cards).

I had a refund processed onto a TCN digital prepaid Visa gift card from an online merchant after 5 business days (but because of public holidays and the weekend, it actually took 8 calendar days). The merchant warned me it could actually take up to 10 business days, so it was within their expected timeframes.

Having said that, I just had a look at the terms and conditions that appear to be for your gift card, and I am a little worried about what I saw:

    7. General

    1. Digital Gift Cards are not legal tender, account cards, credit cards or debit cards or securities. Digital Gift Cards are single load cards and refunds onto the same Digital Gift Card cannot be completed.

Usually, prepaid gift cards allow refund transactions, so seeing that clause there was a surprise.

I would suggest you contact True Rewards and explain the situation (i.e. the merchant said they sent you a refund for a transaction you made). True Rewards should be able to tell you what happens next, as I would like to think that True Rewards would at least issue you a new gift card.

Wow! Thank you so much for your help, I tried looking up the t&c’s but couldn’t find it - too much for me haha

I’ll look into contacting them this week, much appreciated

It’s a gift card with a significant amount left on it so I think they will IF THEY ARE HELPFUL they will issue the refund on a new card? (fingers crossed)

  • It will be in some obscure place you'd never think of. Will need to pester them endlessly to find out where.

    • I will try, thank you (or consider $20 lost)

  • I have had transactions refunded to gift cards a few times,

Most recently, at KFC, did an app order at the wrong store (restaurant gift card linked via Google Pay) and they refunded the transaction.
