They're deadly good for you
Mmm not bad. Nice hot mustard, good bread, mushroom a bit toxic , turkey's a little dry… The turkey's a little dry?! Oh, foul the cursed thing! What demon from the depths of hell created thee?
I understood that reference
Had to look it up but like the adaptation.
“How can I stay mad at you” works as well.
Do they also have food dehydrators on sale? Asking for a friend.
And an innocent local Asian grocer that can be blamed.
Aldi-La
Check your local tip, apparently lots there..
Ozbargainers check the tip first anyway.
Good tip.

1UP or 3 down?
Oh damn
I haven’t even had coffee yet; it’s gonna be a great day aha
@linkindan: Narrator: It was not, in fact, a great day
@linkindan: Sounds like my Monday. Don’t worry let’s regroup and we’ll get em tomorrow, King
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Well it is my dogs birthday tomorrow, so that’ll be fun
Not like my aunt can pass away twice, right?
Is there an Aldi at Leongatha? Asking for a friend.
There is one, indeed.
..asking for an ex-husband.
For people who have had these before, do you actually get at least $18 worth of mushrooms out of one of these kits?
Yes, would be pointless if you didn't.
Sometimes it’s more about the journey than the destination.
Maybe the real mushrooms were the friends we made along the way.
Eh, as a fun activity it has value beyond the mushrooms but I also wonder if people who have used these manage to use all the mushrooms given you are likely to get lots of mushrooms in large batches reasonably close together.
Froze excess recently. First time but they were fine
mushrooms tend to last quite a while.
You sound like a fungi!
It's probably not, I've done it a few times. But trouble is you never have enough of a single pick for the whole family meal. But I never buy them at full price.
The best answer is “maybe”
Most kits will grow 1.5-2kg of mushrooms, so about $15-24 worth, depending on sale price. SOME kits will regrow a few times if maintained, but not all and there’s no guarantee of it
They grew quite a lot of mushrooms at Clarkson's Farm. Might need to be careful with all the potential spores though.
It can depend. I’ve had kits where I gut a lot of mushrooms and ones tagged don’t take well.
Don't forget they come with about a kilo of top-notch compost, once the mushies are done.
I tried this kit last time… it was a pile of s**t.
Quite literally.
Clarkson's Farm
Does he shop at Aldi?
Good kit, can confirm i made a beef wellington last time that didn't hurt anybody
Then you didn't do it right
If that was true, it would have been all over the news.
Just avoid the unnamed Asian grocers /s
If by "these" you mean "mushrooms" then yes, but they weren't from an Aldi grow at home kit.
Professionally grown mushrooms, and kits like these, are fine.
Plus, they're different species to the ones she used - those were deathcaps, which look like Straw Mushrooms. Since none of the ones Aldi is selling look like deadly mushrooms, there's zero chance you're getting anything dangerous.
Death caps can look like straw mushrooms, or they can just look like normal agaricus mushrooms. It would be unsafe to make a guess based on the shape. Always good to remember the rhyme: "if there's a ring and a veil, your liver will fail".
I have a small yard…Do these kits take up mush room?
Take your upvote and get out
Oh come on, be a fun guy
I tip my cap to you for these puns
@819mac: Glad we didn’t spore you to death
Username familiar. Are you Mario's mate?
Fun fact - Mario’s full name is Mario Mario and Luigi’s full name is Luigi Mario
Last time I tried one of these kits (I think it was from bunnings) i followed the instructions and put it in a dark place, which happened to be our second bathroom that we never used.
I came back a few days later and as soon as I opened the door I knew something was wrong. There were thousands and thousands of flying insects that had hatched from the soil or something.
That was fun cleaning it up.
Were the thousands and thousands of flying insects the giveaway that something was wrong?
Fungus gnats, they love damp soil.
Lesson learnt. Never again! haha
Maybe stick to making coffee.
I got one a few years ago, didn't grow a single mushroom.
Did you grow two?
All mushroom kits will produce a flush of mushrooms, maybe a tiny second one, and that's it. They're nice to use and watch them grow, but buying mushrooms from the shop is cheaper.
How much are button mushrooms per kg at the shops though?
Until tomorrow at Woolies (in VIC at least), $9.90/kg
Stamets says button mushrooms may not be as healthy for you as once thought.
I tried a few mushroom kit but I never get good results, ie only a few not so good mushroom and that's it. Has any one had really good experience?
Contamination from bacteria consuming the nutrients and outcompeting the mycelium can be an issue, think I had that problem too when I first bought these, though I only got one gigantic mushroom oddly enough.
Tried this kit (assuming its the same as few years ago) it went:
day1 of produce: handful, full size mushrooms (removed)
Day 3: about 1kg, different sizes (removed)
Day 6: handful, full size mushrooms (removed)
Day 9: few little mushrooms
basically stopped at that.
(dates above are approximate but you should get the idea)
Just followed instructions on the pack. I believe there is a way to extend this produce but additional 'dirt' and growing pot will be required.
Growing pot could, certainly, offset the cost of the kit.
Oh my. Only 11 days for me to draft the guest list
Can the content be put in the garden to grow outside?
People do put the soil from it into their garden (it's apparently good compost) and you do sometimes get extra mushies growing afterwards.
I'd be reluctant to harvest anything out of the garden, though, just in case.
Yeah , don't trust the people next door.
It sounds like you mean to grow it in a garden instead of inside in the box?
If so, not really; they grow best as designed in dark conditions, plus have balanced material for optimum growth. Outside, most gardens are set for full sun which most plants like, so placement will reduce the growth. Plus disturbing the soil mix will also have an impact. You'll likely grow some, but not as many or as large.
Would love these, but only have a small place, not mushroom
I understood that reference
