Cannot play movie on my tablet :( ?

I have got Motorola XOOM. Have few MP4 formatted movies ( Twilight Saga the Trilogy 720p h264) which I cannot play on XOOM. These movies are getting played on my laptop without any issues. Not sure if it because the in-built movie player is not supporting this format? Is it expected?

Actually the movie is getting loaded ok but plays WITHOUT sound and like a FASTFORWARDed version.

  1. How to play these MP4 movies on XOOM then? I heard MX Video Player OR QQPlayer are good…but want to first check if I really need other player than inbuilt one to play that movie?

  2. Another Q is… I use VLC Player which allows me to load SUBTITLES ( SRT files) with the movie….can I do the same on XOOM?

Yep as you said MX Player is your best bet.
You need to download the player, then when you start it it'll advise which codec pack to download for a xoom. Shouldn't have any trouble after that. Their play page says they support srt, but I haven't played a file with subtitles through it yet to comment.

I heard there was a new update to all android tablets which restricted viewing of anything to do with twilight.

    kidding.

MX player lets you use SRT files. I've used it.

  • MX Player working fine for MP4 and even SRT :)

I had to disable HW decoding and use SW decoding.
    Seems HW decoding was default.
Will there be any issue if I disabled HW decoding ?

    • HW decoding makes it easier to play the movie, so it could cause the following:

      • jumpy/skipping/blocky playback if the software method isn't fast enough (sounds like it's fine though).
      • More heat produced
      • More battery used

Nothing wrong with using software if your CPU is good enough and you're not out of battery though.

  • SO you mean its ok to continue on SW decoding on my XOOM (MZ601) without any issue.

    • Yes.

  • I have got Motorola XOOM (MZ601). I have been using WIFI everytime.
Not sure how to use 3G on it? Sorry for asking a basic Q :(
Only thing I know is there is a SIM Card tray ( SD card Slot) where I can use my Optus SIM But whats next?

Do you still receive/make calls from tablet while you are using it in tablet?

    • Put in the optus sim card, then go to the mobile settings and add the optus APN for internet

      http://optus.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/47/~/techn…

afaik you can't make phone calls on it except through apps like skype, which is why people get a data-only sim for tablets usually

      • ahh….I see
Sorry again….what is data-only sim? any links from optus / virginmobile to share?

        • A data only SIM is exactly the same as any other SIM except that they don't give you a phone number and you can't use it to make calls. Often to make up for this they charge you less for data. You can buy these from many telcos.

          Here's virgins pricing
          http://www.virginmobile.com.au/tablet-plans/

You should shop around though, TPG or Vaya probably offer a better rate
