Long Lasting Lipstick That's Survived Dinner and Drinks in Your Experience?

Hey guys, I'm looking for recs on lipsticks that leaves you confident not having you checking your mirror in case it's faded or smudged every hour. Please give me your tried and trusted go-tos.

I recently bought a lipstain from Temu, but turns out it was just lip gloss that rubs right off lol. So now I'm looking for suggestions :)

    Hey guys….recs on lipsticks

    🤔🤔🤔

I’m no expert but temu would be one of the last place I consider getting anything cosmetic related

      • Anything that goes near my face in fact.

I don’t think there are many women on OzBargain OP.

    • Last time I looked at the stats it was something like 30%

Guys don’t wear lipstick on their lips. I think you are best addressing the girls.

  • +1

Just don't wear any. You only wear it to impress the other girls. Guys don't give a flying f#$k about your lippy.

    • +5

Why do you think she is trying to impress other guys?

      • +2

This is true. A poor assumption on my behalf.

  • My daily favourite is a chi chi (in shopholic shade) . It's a matt lipstick so i find it bit drying. I've wanted to change to a less drying lipstick for ages but still can't find anything that has the same 'staying power'.

That's why Mrs Muzeeb always says she wants Matt. She needs more staying power. It all makes sense now. Matt sure is a lucky guy.

    Would a permanent marker work?

    • Yes says my son to one of his gf in the kinder.

My first experience almost ended in divorce when my wife saw it on my shirt collar

  • Haven't worn any in a while but used to use YSL and the stuff never moved. Second would be Revlon.

Liquid tends to stay on longer than traditional. Most of the big names will go the distance. Youd want to part with at least $30 excluding gloss.

  • Maybelline colour drama pencil

  • Wife uses Dior which I believe is very expensive…one relatively new one went in the wash and dryer also recently 🤦😭

  • I've got just the thing, last you the rest of your life.

Ozbargain it's finally my time! Hahah

Depends on what sort of lipstick!

For liquid lipsticks, I love the maybelline ones in the square containers. Both the matte and the vinyl are good. The matte are much drier (obviously) but last all night for me. I won't wear red unless it's these, because the effort of smudging/application is too much otherwise.

Another option is the old-school style of liquid lip where you apply the colour, wait for it to set, then apply a balm over the top. These are much more hydrating than the above maybelline liquid lipsticks, and I loved that I could apply any lipbalm afterwards to keep my lips feeling comfortable without ruining the colour. I have specifically liked these L'Oreal ones.

MAC retro matte lipsticks are another winner for matte (if you prefer a bullet lipstick rather than a liquid lip)

I always love a good lipliner then lipstick combo, the lipliner definitely helps them last! I use any old lipliner because to me they are all the same haha.

But more than anything, I prioritise a lipstick that when it fades will fade nicely, rather than trying to find a lipstick that lasts forever. If that makes sense :) Especially if you're eating oily food no lipstick is budgeproof for me! Some just work better than others.

If you want to go more high end, I used to love the Stila liquid lipsticks! "Patina" used to be my favorite.

I haven't bought lip products in like 5 years because I have way too many, so I don't know if there is better new ones on the market but that's my tried and tested recs :)

Also side note, I've never had a lipstain that has actually worked for me. They all just come off so easily.

    • Piggy-backing off this comment - the Lancome L'Abslou Rouge Drama Mattes will fade away nicely to a lighter colour (not rub off completely). The more red it is, the better the fade.

On the flip side, it's more of a pain to remove at the end of the day.

I find that Maybelline Super Stay lasts all day.
Haven't tried it yet but Wonderskin Lip Stain has good reviews.

I like rom&nd glasting water tint, juicy lasting tint and etude house fixing tint. These aren't lipsticks as such but applied with a doe foot applicator. Ozbargain-friendly at around $13-$17.

I love the Revlon long lasting liquid lip products. Maybeline has never been as good in my experience.

I dont know if its still made, but there used to be something called lipcote or something and looked like a small bottle of clear nail polish. You would brush it over whatever lipstick you wore and let dry. It stung like buggary but was brilliant. It was sold in the lipsticks aisle.

Ive heard good things about Pat McGrath liquilust but it sells out pretty quickly at Sephora.

Try the matt lipsticks. Cheap ones can feel and look dry, so you need to use a decent brand.

Revlon have a good range in the cheaper price bracket. YSL & Dior in the higher price bracket.

If you want lipsticks which haven't been tested on animals, then Nude by Nature do a nice creamy matt. So do Natio, but they are less long-lasting.

Using a lipliner and a bit of foundation on your lips first can also help to make it look good and last longer.

Temu products are all poorly made rip-offs of better brands and god knows what they put in them.

Use lipliner + lipstick. The lipliner improves staying power and longevity by a lot.

I use Elizabeth Arden lip fix, the tube lasts for at least a couple of years. It does what it says-keeps the lippy from straying. Put it on 1st-only a very small amount, let that dry then lipliner + lipstick.
The colour will need re-applying after eating but it won't be smudged all over your face.

I.was looking for a longer lasting lipstick a few years ago in Myer. The cosmetics department lady said that if you put a moisturiser in your lips before applying lipstick, it will last longer. Of course, she's talking good brands not rubbish. I don't wear makeup much these days. However, I've always used good brands. I wouldn't trust TEMU for any product touching your skin (or any made in China brand).

  • One size do a nice one that's a longwear matte on one side then a lip gloss for the top that you can reapply to keep it fresh. It's the lip snatcher version. The true red one is lovely, it glows.

  • Very late to this, however, I recently bought into the " Wonderskin" hype for their lipstain. ( Available on Amazon AU)

It dries matte and I top up with a drugstore lipbalm.

    I've gotten hours of wear!
