I enjoyed this book when I listened to the Graphic Audio version 5 or so years ago. The Audible version is unfortunately just a solo narrator production though. Humble Bundle has created a few Graphic Audio bundles in the past; hopefully more are in the works.

    That's a shame - I enjoyed the first couple of books, did it go downhill as the series went on?

      Same. I enjoyed the first two. Read the first half of the third and haven’t really bothered to finish the rest yet.

        I finished the gentlemen bastard but it was a steep decent from the first book. I've only done the first warded man and didn't bother with the rest.
        It seems a lot of series do this. Cough cough lightbringer.

        Quite frankly the last book was ridiculous and it ended like a strangling death cry.

      Admittedly it's been years since i read the books but i remember the first two books were ok. They had some rough parts but generally were quite good. But from then on the series just becomes increasingly worse.

    Entirely subjective. If you like your cheesy magical fantasy romps it's got a very unique take on the genre.

    I'd put it alongside feist (except for the servant of the empire trilogy which he clearly didn't actually write, and was far, far superior).

  I loved this series. What made it a pain was the extended time between novels. I'm actually quite surprised at some of the negative comments though. I'll keep them in mind when I next re-run through the series as I inevitably do.

  EDIT: Hmmm, didn't realise the next book, The Hidden Queen, came out in March 2024. THREE YEARS after the first of the new series.
