Samsung Vs Daikin 14kw Reverse Cycle Ducted Split System

Our old reverse cycle ducted split system died recently and the installer is unable to source parts as it's discontinued (it lasted 24 years).

We've been quoted around $10.3k for a Samsung system vs $12.3k for a Daikin system. Based on your experience, which would you go with, or recommend another brand?

  • What make is your old one?

    • Actron.

      • With such amazing longevity, why not get another one? Otherwise ask your installers which one they'd buy. Aircon guys in my experience will offer unbiassed advice.

        • Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Especially with changes in manufacturing, technology, company strategy (price/value curve), etc.

Also, want to avoid survivorship bias.

And interested in hearing about new kids on the block.

          • @ihbh: I had a 4yo Actron, that thing can heat or cool in a flash. So i could say, they still preform better lol

          • @ihbh: Seems to be an odd approach - switch from a brand that has lasted for 24 years to another brand based largely on a strangers comments.
TWIW, our Actron 19kW system is 5 years old and had not missed a beat

@Ocker: Please look up survivor bias.

I am not. I'm checking to see if there's any useful insight I've missed. This is my fourth ducted system.

  • Got a Daikin works awesome never had any issues with and had for about 6 years now. Daikin is also good as it can still run even in negative temperatures outside.

  • I have a Samsung 16kW reverse cycle ducted split system since 2018 and have not experienced any issues with it.

Compare the product review sites ;)

My experience mirrors the above scores :P

If you live in an area with critters (spiders, ants, roaches, etc) Daikin will not warranty their electronic boards when they blow up from critter ingress (decent manufacturers resin coat their boards so they are decently protected from critters, Daikin do not)

    • Thanks for that point about Daikin.
