i have 7 of these at my place - they are awesome, and replace older genio ones which were just rgb+ warm.
unfortunately when on dedicated white mode, minimum dimming is actually still very bright.

I've noticed this with the downlights as well. 30% can still be pretty bright.

        • Yeah I just do orange red - one of these days I’ll be arsed to replace it all with a nice 2200k strip light based indirect lighting setup

Got him! Yes.. Piss Off. He’s Out!

  • you need to switch on/off on your phone, annoying. My kids doesn't like it at all.

It also interfaces with all of the big voice-activated smart-speakers, so you can just tell the Great and Wise Googly-Moogly to turn off the light.

… or put them on a timer - eg turn on at sunset & off at 11PM

    • Need these https://www.mirabellagenio.com.au/product-range/mirabella-ge… I used them on my front door. I replaced the globe with a Mirabella one, open the door at night = light on, and then after 10 mins of the door being closed = turn light off.

I've got "Smart Life" app products and all automate my lights. I've since replaced most of my outdoor lights with the downlights where possible and then trigger based on time, motion. For example, when I get within 300m of home, all my outdoor lights turn on, then I am not fumbling at the front door trying to unlock it in the dark.

      • good idea - wish they didnt discontinued the motion sensor.

I tried a few and it was average. Often, false sensing something outside and then triggering all my lights on, it was kinda annoying, I've still got it up and connected just no automation triggered.

          That was just my experience.

@geekcohen: Just the ghosts walking around outside your house.

I still use the switch for these globes. Once they're on, a smart speaker or phone is used to adjust them.

I have one of these and it constantly needs to be added back to the network.

    • My smart devices started misbehaving when I switched from aussi broadband to exetel. Once i reverted back everything was working normal. Same router all the time.

Never had an issue. Is your network running dual band on the same SSID? I found that having seperate networks for 2.4ghz and 5ghz fixed a lot of my issues.

      • Good point. But unlike mobile devices, why would these fixed device switch bands?

      • No it's not.

  • general question please i have two bulbs in the room but they are connected into one switch on/off on the wall. i found it difficult to connect it to the app. is this normal? (different brand not genio but same thing)

Unscrew one, pair the remaining first, then vise versa

    • +1

Sure is. You have to install 1 set it up and remove, install other, set it up and then plug both in. Then in the app you should be able to link the 2 together. Have had to do this and then when adding to google i just say turn on bedroom lights and they both turn on etc.

you might need to put it into the alternate pairing mode which is on-off 5 times iirc - the light will flash SLOWLY as opposed to fast. (had the issue with the original rgbww version of the genio lamp + the old yeelight lamps I had).
havent had issues with the rgb+Cct ones.

Does the job and cheaper than the TP Link ones

I find that the TP link Tapo app is a lot smoother than most of the other apps. You can link it to the Google home app but I find it does not offer all the features of the Tapo app

How easy are these to hack.. I wanna f**k with my neighbors or just when I pass someones house randomly 😂

Edit. Especially if they watch that stranger things scene with the Christmas lights

    • It's a lot easier to hack them than it is to do a guerilla stealth-install into the light socket & Wi-Fi network of every single house in passing distance of you.

  • Can these be flashed with Tasmota firmware?

    • +1

very unlikely, no more ota exploit or unless you can get access to the esp(if it still uses esp) to reflash without destroying the bulb.

you can use the tuyalocal/localtuya apps but there's still a delay/instability. I've mostly tried with mirabella downlights some work but some randomly flash.

Most new products based on tuya use firmware 1.5* and now appear to be hard to disassemble.

You can buy lifx products but they're stupidly expensive.

      It's super annoying.

      I'd love to hear different.

  • +1

Anyone wanting to use them with Homeassistant then just use the tuya app and not the Mirabella app and it works just fine with Hass!

  • Annoying as hell to set up in my experience. Frequently fell off the network and had to be reset, which involved turning switches off and on again a lot. I had three on the one switch and it was pretty common for 2 of them to be in the right mode but not the last one. Left them behind to torment the next tenants.

  • For $13 it's worth the hassle of setting up, and introduces kids to smart devices and the novelty of being able to control their bedroom light with an iPad.

But for a reliable smart device it's not great. Will randomly disconnect from WiFi an a semi-regular basis.
And the power switch on the wall needs to be "on" all the time (obviously), so the light must be controlled by either voice (not reliable) or via the amp (a pain when all you want to do is turn a light on).

I have 3 of these in the kids bedrooms. They can then choose to use them 'smart' or 'dumb'.

  • I find the Mirabella Genio range pretty decent. Controllable with their rather limited app, Google or Alexa devices (which I find to be very reliable if you call them an easy to pronounce name). My only gripe with them is that they occasionally decide to disconnect themselves from my wi-fi if they haven't been used for a while. Not a huge hassle. I just turn it off and on again and it reconnects.

  • Don't forget your 10% off if you have Woolworths Mobile etc.

  • I’ve never had any issues with Genio devices disconnecting from wifi. I’ve got at least 8 globes and 5 other products, and they all stay connected. I’ve used them over 3 houses, all with the same experience.

  • Doesn’t look like bayonet fit version is discounted, only the Edison.

    • Nope both are discounted - Source: I bought a bayonet yesterday
