Humble Choice Subscription US$8 (A$11.95) Per Month For 6 Months @ Humble Bundle

361
JULY49

Humble Bundle has just announced a great deal on their monthly "Humble Choice" bundle. You can receive the Humble Choice monthly bundle at 33% off for the next six months. Note: To be eligible, you must be a new, paused or canceled member.

Be sure to enter the code JULY49 on checkout (thanks for the reminder @JK82)

How does it work?
Each month you will be charged US$8 ($A11.95) and get a great selection of games (usually around 8) to redeem via Steam. For example, the bundle this month (which expires next Tuesday 6th) consists of the following games:

A Plague Tale: Requiem
Ghostrunner 2
Starship Troopers: Terran Command
Sticky Business
Zoeti
Figment 2: Creed Valley
Heretic's Fork
Hyperviolent

Seems like a great deal to me but I'm not eligible as I'm an existing member (boo hiss).

Update: As @Vladdo has pointed out, the following condition applies… "This price is locked in for 6 months, and this offer will be void if your plan is canceled or skipped. Gifts are not eligible." I had assumed this to be the case anyway but it's worth highlighting it here.

Just after Humble laid off 36 employees?

    IT'S A TRAP!

    • +9

To be clear, only their publishing arm was hit by layoffs, not really that relevant to their bundles.

      • Can't remember which podcast I heard it on but someone recently said "Humble don't know how to publish games", and I tend to agree.

        • Skill Up recently quoted it, though I believe the quote was "Ziff Davis doesn't know how to publish games", after they discovered that games make take a year or two to publish

        • If always felt like to me they published games not to maximise how much they could get from the game but to maximise how much they could get from humble choice and humble bundles by having those games there.

  • +1

It didn't appear to be available for my long paused plan.

    • Interesting… I'll make a note in the post.

    • +1

Did you enter the code JULY49 at checkout?

      • I didn't get a checkout code option, but I'll try again on PC.

        • +2

The code is on the front page in the picutre - when you go to re-join it adds it to your cart and there's an option to enter a voucher. Put it in there.

          • @jk82: I'm getting no cart at all, for my suspended account I can only click resume.

I would make a new account, as this is the price I was waiting for, but I am concerned that Humble's multi-account monitoring will flag me.

            • +1

@Jimbuscus: it worked for my long paused plan I clicked rejoin and then something like change payment method and it went to a cart where I could input the code and choose between monthly and yearly payments etc. Code in and it worked. Sorry instructions are a bit vague :-D

              • @bigruss: I know what you are referring to and that should help.

      • +2

I've updated the post to reflect this. Thanks for the reminder!

  • +2

    Nice find, thanks!!

It's actually $11.95 per month for 6 months

    • +1

Thanks again and I'll update the post (again).

      • +1

Very much agree. Nice find and great value. Cheers.

  • +2

hmm when i saw this originally i thought you had to pay upfront for the 6 months and thought nope. but monthly i could go it, i did want terran command…

  • Thanks op, I was able to redeem after not having humble monthly for over 2 years :)

  • +1

What is the current monthly price for the grandfathered plans?

    • +4

      Grandfathered plan: US$12

      Regular everyday price: US$11.99

      • Huh, I thought there was some kind of discount for being on the 'classic' plan, guess not. Thanks mate

        • +4

Classic provided a discount back when Choice had tiers where you could actually choose the games you wanted, but those days are long gone.

Tier Price (USD) Games Store discount
          Lite $4.99 0 10%
          Basic $14.99 3 10%
          Premium $19.99 9 20%
          Classic $12.00 10 20%
          • @HomeAlone: I'm on a classic annual plan for US$129, or US$10.75 per month, so some of the grandfathered plans still get a bit of a discount.

            • @BadlyDrawnRhino: That's the standard annual rate available to everyone.

              https://support.humblebundle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036284…

You may want to consider switching to the standard plan so that you can change your account currency to AUD as it works out ~10% cheaper + you won't get charged foreign currency conversion fees by your bank.

              • +1

                @HomeAlone:

get charged foreign currency conversion fees by your bank.

This is OzBargain, I can't imagine anyone here is going to choose a credit card that charges international transaction fees !

                • @Nom:

This is OzBargain, I can't imagine anyone here is going to choose a credit card that charges international transaction fees !

Could you imagine someone on OzBargain paying an extra ~$19 for an annual Humble subscription for no good reason?

                  US$129 = ~AU$198 + bank fees if applicable

                  vs

AU$179 when ditching the old classic plan and switching to the standard plan which can be charged in local currency.

              • @HomeAlone: I didn't realise they did annual plans anymore, the website only lists the monthly plan price when I had a look last night. And also only in USD. Not surprised they're not completely transparent about these things.

                • +1

                  @BadlyDrawnRhino:

I didn't realise they did annual plans anymore, the website only lists the monthly plan price when I had a look last night.

Seeing as you're already subscribed you wouldn't have been presented with the link to the checkout page where it asks you to pick your plan.

                  https://www.humblebundle.com/membership/checkout

And also only in USD. Not surprised they're not completely transparent about these things.

                  • They sent an email in February 2020 when they introduced regional pricing.
                  • They added support articles for all the changes.
                  • They displayed a notice at the top of the website with a link to their blog with information on the changes.
                  • 3 months later they followed up with another email saying not to forget to update your location.

I'm not sure how much more transparent they could have been?

Have there been any good games in the last 6 or so months?

I've been unsubbed for about 2 years now.

    • +6

It's not really worth it imo, been unsubbed for over a year myself and been checkin off and on.

Most of the games have been on sale cheap elsewhere or offered in gaming subs. Have also noticed that after a game is included in the Humble Bundle keys pop up on CD key sites for really cheap too.

      • -1

        Yup.

Same deal, used to be massive, excited for the next month…

        Now… ehh, can’t be bothered…
Used to have all my friends purchase and would run coops…

      • Yep. Can pick up the titles of interest couple of days later if the bundle in total isnt of interest.

    • I too have been paused for a couple of years. Very occasionally a good game gets included, but I've usually already got it

    • +3

Yes, there's been plenty of good games in the last 6 months.

  • +10

I ended up cancelling my subscription after the third time they told me a product was "out of stock" for over a month, promising to email me once it was back "in stock" and failing to do so. one of them took 5 months. They denied me a refund, acted like it was very reasonable for them to not deliver a key. it's a digital good.. They don't deserve to be in business.

    • +4

I've been purchasing games (over 700 in fact) from them since 2012 and never had an issue.

      • +4

It's rare, but it does happen. A few have been having issues with Soulstice from about 4-ish months ago? The best way to avoid it happening seems to be revealing the keys straight away, and having them logged somewhere.

        • +4

I'm not suggesting it doesn't happen, just pointing out that I haven't had any issues in over 12 years. I know things can (and do) go wrong with everything. I do as you say, that is, always reveal my keys immediately and bung them straight into Steam.

          • @cryptowiz: My problem is less about something going wrong, I can accept things happen. It's more their attitude toward a resolution. If it were so rare you'd think they'd have no problem issuing a refund. It's absolutely shameful and pathetic treatment of customers.

Be also aware the if you skip or cancel, the deal is void.

"Single use coupon. Coupon is redeemable to sign up for Humble Choice at $8 USD per month for 6 months (reg. $11.99 USD per month) before any applicable taxes and fees. Regional pricing may vary. Coupon expires on August 6, 2024 at 9:59 am PT. This price is locked in for 6 months, and this offer will be void if your plan is canceled or skipped. Gifts are not eligible."

    • I'd assumed this to be the case but I've updated the post to reflect this. Thanks for the input.

  • +1

look as much as I love having free games every month for just 8 bucks a month, its meh to me I am over it lol but it was good while it lasted had a tonne of steam games from it.

    • +1

      Fair enough.

  • +1

I had choice for about 5 years, but this year decided to cancel, the bundles just arent that exciting anymore.

  • I have a current subscription. If I pause now, would I be able to use this?

    • I too have a current subscription but I decided against pausing, so, to be honest, I have no idea if it would work. You would have to try it and see. Note that this offer ends Tuesday.

      • I have a feeling that they would try prevent that. I might just pause my main and use an alt account for the next 6 months.

        • My thoughts exactly.

  • +1

Im an ex humble monthly/choice member. Hunble bundles and monthlys were great when they started out but it feels like they have lost their way. I dont like the sneaky things they do like making you click 100 times to cancel a sub and they play with the colours/wording to trick you out of unsubbing. Then theres the sneaky putting in a higher default price in the humble bundles. Even the logo for this sale is sneaky and the 33% is made to look like 88%. If these things still dont matter to you, 6 months locked into humble choice for this price is still risky. The next 6 months could be headliners you dont care about or the headliners could be base games that you have to pay all over again on steam to get the complete edition with dlc. So you might not be getting anything cheap.

    • Yeap… Agree.. They are specifically quite adversarial when it comes to UI and the sneaky/dodgy stuff to suck you in and keep you as a subscriber. It's also deliberate that you get the base game and then either have to buy a higher priced season pass, or a lower priced GOTY edition on some games, negating the point of ever buying the humble bundle version in the first place. I got a good deal 2+ years ago when a yearly sub went for $80 USD but most months I'd simply pause because I have no interest in the games being offered. I think I got 2.5 years out of a 1 yr sub as most months were paused. Now if I want a bundle, I'll just cough up the $12 USD or whatever it is and then immediately cancel. The chances of them having anything I want is slim.

  • Have multiple accounts, one I just cancelled and the other has been inactive for a long time. Getting "Invalid promotional code." when trying to use it at checkout for both, might be expired?

    • Sorry, but the offer expired yesterday (incorrectly detailed in my original text). I've manually set the deal to expired now so others won't make the same mistake.
