Help Needed: Budget Pet Hair Vacuum for Carpets

Hello fellow Ozbargainers,
We recently got a pet, which is shedding a lot and all our vaccums have suddenly reached end of life. Due to our current situation not looking to spend big money on a new vacuum. Hence reaching out to our community for some suggestions on decent budget vacuums especially for long pet hair with carpets.
Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

    Xiaomi G10

    • This, I have a Miele C3 cat and dog that nevers get used because the G10 does a great job.

They seem hard to find anymore though, the G10 Plus seems to be $500 too.

  • Are you talking about a cordless stick vacuum? And specify youre budget

I see Dyson v8 for $399 but I don’t want to spend that much atm. So looking at something <$200 - lesser the better.

FYI - I have Dyson V8 and the power head picks up the 3 x golden retriever's hair with plenty of suction BUT the hair clumps at the collection bin entrance (against the middle filter) blocking the airflow and stopping the vacuum. I am forever having to stick my fingers in to unblock. It still does a bloody good job. I want a new Dyson but they all look to have narrow collection bin entrance so am still on the hunt.

The China vacuums have worked wonders for me. Specifically I used the Dreame T30 in the past and it pulled so much fur my V8 just was not pulling…

    • Do you think a $500+ vac qualifies as "budget"?

    • Thanks ! sorry I should have mentioned my budget. If I can get something below $200 that would be ideal. I was even considering the Kmart ones but haven’t had very good experience with them in the past - so would probably end up being a complete waste of the $50-$100.

Makes sense, i mean usually for furniture / appliances, i would recommend spending a little bit more.

so would probably end up being a complete waste of the $50-$100.

IIf you got a vac that could do pet fur for $200 but you had to plug it in every time you use it. Its pretty crap? But you dont know until you know!

If i had to decide, id probably recommend saving another month and looking at like t20s which go for about $300

  • Can you trade in pets for ones that don't shed? Like poodles, sphynxes or reptiles?

    • Unfortunately, as logical as it sounds, it’s not really an option 😃 I am a first time pet owner and have got soo attached to my pet - can’t imagine a day without her.

      • Just kidding mate 😉

The important thing is what kind of hair it is shedding. For small hairs you want something with a spinning brush, plus upholstery attachments. However if you have a long hair pet, the hair can get tangled in spinning brushes very easily - in this case get a basic stiff-bristle brush of any size, dampen with water and brush the surfaces to collect the pet hair in one place, then pick up or vacuum without spinning brush.

I have an "animal origin" Dyson and it can't deal with pet hair for shit. Do not recommend.

If you want a really cheap vacuum cordless and already have Ozito tools, there's this dust-buster looking thing which has good reviews at bunnings but somoene on here said is bad. If it's unsuitable or fails I understand Bunnings is good about returns for Ozito stuff.

Otherwise for less than $200, you can get a Bissell "powerforce" corded vac with pet tools. In my experience Bissell perform well and last a long time.

You can also check facebook marketplace.

Just a comment - Our Dyson V8 picks up golden retriever hair with no tangles at all

How much gold have they retrieved to date?

        • The love and affection is unmeasurable

  • Thanks everyone for your responses!
I went to Goodguys yesterday to look at the shark navigator zu62 (on sale for $299) after reading all the positive reviews online. The staff was really helpful and even helped me to plug it in and give it a go on a carpet. I am not sure if it was the demo unit, but the sound it made didn’t sound convincing at all. Plus it was way to heavy and felt it would be difficult to manoeuvre on carpet at home. My arm was hurting even just after trying it for 2 mins.
So I looked at the Bissel power force (on sale for $199 at good guys / $134 at amazon) as suggested by @Minimum chips (Thanks) - that one looked more promising than the shark - still heavy but much managable than the shark and the suction also felt more powerful.
Finally we swerved towards the Dyson v8 plus ( on sale for $449) which seems to come with the anti tangling head for pets.
Now I am confused if I should just save up a little more and take the leap of faith with the Dyson v8. I currrently have a Dyson v6 which is going good for last 10-12 years. Had to change the battery once ( which I got from Amazon for circa $50 and it has sprung to life again ) but now the motor head is refusing to spin. So another option I am considering is just getting new head for my v6.
Other than that I have a roborock (which was the xiaomi when it launched) has seen 8+ years now and on its way out - was probably one of my best buys (got it <$400 from memory) but the roborocks these days are just out of my league.
Then I also got a Xiaomi Viaomi 2 I believe, but I think I got a dud unit. I tried complaining, but it was too hard, they kept asking for videos etc which I never got to and am just stuck with it now - it does a sh*t job even on hard floor, haven’t even tried it on carpets.
Sorry long story - but here are my options/ next steps I am leaning towards
    1. Get a head for my v6 and then buying the v8 when I can or if I get it for a really good price. 🤞
    2. Check out the Ozito one at Bunnings.
    3. Get the Bissel Powerforce, but I am worried if I will end up with another one that doesn’t do the job as I would like it to. Goodguys said they can’t accept returns once it’s opened.

Will report back with my updates, but please keep the suggestions coming - really appreciate it!

Quick final update - bit the bullet on Dyson v8 origin extra for $448 + 13% Shopback ($52.95).
Does a brilliant job - dog hair are now much more manageable. Happy with the purchase so far !
Thanks everyone for your inputs ! Really appreciate it.
