Lost My Insta360 X4 in Brisbane

Lost Insta360 X4 Camera - Shorncliffe Jetty, Brisbane

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can offer some advice or help. I lost my Insta360 X4 camera, I left it on a bench at Shorncliffe Jetty on Wednesday, 31st July 2024 around 4:40 pm.

I'm absolutely devastated as the camera contains countless precious memories from travels and time with loved ones. I have travelled with it from Perth so it contains memories from Perth-Darwin-Sydney-Canberra and lastly Brisbane.

The camera is in a grey case and includes the following:

  • Insta360 X4 camera
  • Invisible selfie stick with sleeve
  • Otto dual port gan charger
  • Black data cable
  • Memory cards

I've already reported the loss to the police online and called Sandgate police to check if anyone has handed it in.

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to track or find a lost camera like this? Or perhaps someone has information about lost and found items in the area. I have posted it in various Shorncliffe/Sandgate community pages as well.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

WOW Surprised by the amount of lost phones people hand in!

Plus the amount of 'lost' cars…. Surely the police could just look up the owner to them!

    • Mostly what you'd expect (phones, wallets, etc) but then a few weird ones like:

FOUND DOOR BELL 22/7/24 SURFERS PARADISE

Who carries around a door bell?

wonder if its like a eufy or smart doorbell that someones ripped off the wall

You can recover the photos from your backup but I can't help you with the camera.

considering that place is such a tourist hotspot for the area, my bet is it is lonnnngggg gone.

Something like 12 years ago my co-worker lost his new 5dmkii - there was a service online at the time that crawls through uploading services (if i remember right, flickr was one of them and it was definitely a popular resource at the time) and other services looking to match up serial numbers - long story short, the thief was actually someone he met at a car meet up - thief had literally uploaded a whole bunch of pictures online without scrubbing meta data. Confronted the guy and got his camera back - these days though I find basically no one uploads anything anymore other than to say, Instagram, which I believe has no original meta data tied to it once uploaded.

i used this site a while ago to try to find a lost camera - wasn't successful though

Yeah - these days wouldn't work as good/ if at all since most uploading services would probably totally scrub the meta data. I find most people in my social circle these days dont even bother with uploading anything. Its just a vehicle to stalk others and see how good/bad they're doing in life.

Back in the day before flickr turned to shit after it was bought out by yahoo it was a really good resource since it processed all the meta data such as lens and body info automatically so you could easily see what gear was used.

probably best to post in local facebook groups. alot more people from your area are likley to report or help out if they have seen it / found it.

    • I have posted in a lot of Facebook group and offered reward . No luck 😔

  • Not is Australia especially in Brisbane mate, you left something in there even just a $2 item you ain't getting it back. Move on, get a new one and re-create those memories.

    • Yeah, I have lost hope now 😢

I left it on a bench

Seems a weird thing to do if the memories were so important :/

I would have had it strapped to me and a GPS tracker in the pouch …

  • Do you know your serial number? Edit: I see you've already reported. Fingers crossed.

    • I do know the serial number, fingers crossed 🤞

      • I do wonder if the reports that secondhand dealers upload to the police work across state borders? I know a guy so will find out…

        • How does that works ? It'd be awesome if there's a way to find out.

          • @Do I NeedThis: Cashies says the upload occurs by state but I can't figure out if there's any cross-border collaboration. I imagine it's a process fraught with clerical errors as serial numbers will have been manually entered.

So sorry to hear about this.

I am so paranoid about this on my holidays I always back up to another SD card at night.

Hope you can get it back or claim travel insurance.

    • Didn't take travel insurance

      • @Do I NeedThis I think you needed it

    Lost Insta360 X4 Camera

contains countless precious memories from travels and time

I guess you don't need it.

  • Does it not have an ActiveTrack function, where the camera follows you?

    • Well if only that works when it is in a box

  • For whoever returns said item intact OFFER A REWARD TWICE THE GOING RATE OF THE ITEM.
Surely whoever finds it will want to return the item then and you receive your precious memories.

    • I have posted online on forums offering rewards.

Check multiple places on facebook because amazingly people dont realise you should hand it in to the Police.

People think everyone uses Facebook they dont.

We had a lost dog turn up at our place got my son to post on facebook in multiple places. Ended up spotted a lady walking past spoke to her and it was her dog she had also posted on multiple locations on Facebook and we are a tiny town and Facebook didnt help in this case.

At least with a android mobile phone you can have it backing up to Google photos, and OneDrive. That's what I do, two cloud backups plus downloading to my laptop and also local backup to portable drive.

I guess those with iJunk have similar options.

I am sorry this happened, I hope someone kind finds and return it.
I have lost similar Items, so I stick a waterproof tag on items like keys with my number.

I found a video camera once. Careful detective work with my son and we located owner over a month.

It was used to record family events for bedridden grandfather. They were happy.

Lady brought out original purchase docket and $100 gift card for son
