Recommend Me an External SSD Reader

Its been a hot minute since ive been up to date in the computing world, but ive got a bunch of laptops to fix.
Can anyone recomend me what to look for in external reader for the more modern SSDs? Looking at Compatatbility with multiple drives, M.2 sata and NVMe, as they seem to have a bunch of different keys and notches now? Not too worried about speed, as they will just be used for one off backups. Probably looking to get one from Aliexpress or similar.

I'd just buy from Amazon if you're working with a lot of drives, for general reliability. UGreen stuff isn't expensive to handle both sata and nvme m.2 drives, like this - https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Enclosure-Thunderbolt-Compa…

You know what you're getting and it's easy to return. If you have a specific type you want then aliexpress might be fine, but it seems you want universal.

  • Simplecom SA506 or something similar.

The Simplecom SA506 will take both SATA and NVMe M2 SSDs. And with NVMe it will work at 10 Mb/s.

Got a couple. Love em. Definitely recommended. Threw all my other USB to M.2 adapters away when I got them.

Love them because I don't have to open them up to plug an SSD into them. You just plug the M.2 SSD into the opening on the side of the little black box, and plug the USB cable into the computer.

The one downside is they only come with a USB-C connector. But USB-C to USB-A, if required, is easy.
