Definitely not worth it for me, seems like a big load of nothing. Though I won't be surprised if where before you used to get special trade deals or prices or pre-order earlier that they're now magically behind this membership pay wall.

    • +9

I would be more incline to join if they at least offered free delivery for orders.

They're receiving quite a lot of backlash for what the subscription currently offers, and I would hope that they rework some of the perks and that free delivery (even if there's a minimum purchase amount required) also becomes a thing.

It seems like they're using the Gamestop Pro subscription model as inspiration, but even that model offers vastly greater value. At US$65/year, customers get $60 back in monthly $5 vouchers (kinda like eBay Plus) as well as a bunch of other perks.

I have no clue why they made such a big fuss about this on social media, thinking that people would be happy about it.

        • I can tell you from experience working with marketing teams, they think it’s dog shit too. The Product teams come up with these constructs and then it’s another’s job to sell it.

I’ve personally voiced concerns at things like this internally and you get met with the corporate stare.

    Double Carrots

    My goat will be happy.

    gee EB still exists….

What a weird subscription. Normally subs come with stuff you can use monthly, this is like… 5% off digital currencies? Woolies sub gives double that on groceries.
Buy 10 get 1 free is a terrible sale even without a sub to access it.
    This is just bizarre.

    • +6

It's a grift, most subscriptions are becoming grifts lately, e.g. paying Netflix to watch ads.

    • 5% off digital currencies? Woolies sub gives double that on groceries.

I have never seen gift cards for Steam or other gaming currency on sale. If Steam currency is included then there is definitely an incentive to use this subscription.

      • It would be, but if that was your ONLY use for this, that means you'd need to spend $1000 on Steam a year to break even, let alone come out on top.

      • From looking at the T&Cs, it doesn't look like it includes Steam Wallet cards

Includes Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation Store Gift Card, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Gift Card, Roblox Gift Card, Fortnite V-Bucks and digital games
Excludes EB Games and Zing Pop Culture Gift Cards. Excludes Code-In-a-Box Games

Everything needs a stupid subscription these days

    • It makes sense from a business perspective, it guarantees them a more reliable cashflow.

From a consumer perspective, everyone is different and will need to weigh up if this subscription is financially valuable. The question to ask is, "are you expected to save more than what you spend on this subscription?"

      • I would like to know WHO would benefit from this subscription and how?

        • rasing income without having to sale an actual product. I remember back in the dvd days. Alot of people use to directly import titles from DVDSoon. When they started with the paid membership, they closed down shortly after.

    "Double Carrots: On every purchase"

Hmm, this is basically asking all current Lv 5 to sign up if they dont want to lose status

  • +12

    hahahahahhaahhahaha.

there's no value in this. How about a discount on games?

    • +4

Nah, nothing like that, but for the 4 people on planet earth that still give a shit about Pop Vinyls, you get 1 free after you buy 10.

Be happy with that peasant! (/s)

i wondered if they checked they're sales records to determine if 10 was a great number.

This thing is about 4 months too late for April fool's.

Buy 10 Get 1 Free Clothing: Get a FREE Clothing item valued up to $70 after every 10th Clothing purchase!
Buy 10 Get 1 Free Socks: Get a FREE pair of Socks valued up to $10 after every 10th pair of Socks purchase!

How many EB Games customers in history do you think have ever bought more than 10 articles of clothing or socks from EB Games? You think it's more than 10?

    • I might have bought 10 ever, all very heavily discounted. Probably over 3-4 years though.

    • Same loyalty program at Zing Pop Culture where people do buy a lot of clothing.

    • With all those ads for Naruto hoodies, surely someone cool and edgy is buying them.

      • Does an 11 year old boy count?

Buy 10 Get 1 Free Clothing: Get a FREE Clothing item valued up to $70 after every 10th Clothing purchase!

That's not too bad, I tend to buy their tshirts when they're on sale for $5 each. If they have a sale, I can sign up for 3 months, get 10 tshirts for $50 and get a free hoodie or this backpack for my next trip to China

  • +4

This is a terrible decision. Will not be surprised if they enter voluntary administration in the near future. Even the comments on their own social media accounts about this are all negative.

  • +3

Seems like they've gone to considerable effort to dream up a pretty lacklustre offer

  • +2

isnt eb games now just paid landfil?

  • +1

They should give you the store if you're buying 10 of any of their merch.

  • +1

That's a lot of Steam cards before you start to make your $50 back.

  • LOL!

  • The 5% digital currency discounts could probably work well if you combine it other deals such as using the 10% Ultimate Gift Card discounts and Reward Gateway obtained discounted EB Games Giftcards to buy the digital currency giftcard.

  • +1

5% off Digital Currencies and Content

This would've been decent for me if Ultimate Game Card (not Ultimate Gift Card) was still a thing. Unfortunately they shut down like a decade ago and none of the digital currency cards EB stocks now can be used for Artix Points.

  • Any deal with 1 free pack after 10 purchases is instantly negated by paying EB retail on cards. I can't believe this was greenlit

  • If this sub actually had included free delivery for online purchases and at least 10% discount on digital credit/ gift cards it would have been worth the asking price.

  • You can sign up for 3 months for $25. I think I’ll do that. Buy a couple of hundred in PlayStation credit and trade in all my old games. I think I can make it work financially

  • It’s a really odd combination of rewards TBH and isn’t going to be appealing to anyone except the absolute die hard shoppers there. All the ‘buy 10 get 1 free’ is too many purchases for things most people will never want 10 of from EB.

If you’re doing A LOT of eGift Cards or trade-ins maybe you start to see something from the 5% there, but those gaming gift cards are better purchased through the 10% off sales that happen over the year at grocery stores and Big W.

Anyone remotely interested in this and shopping there enough to take advantage of those other perks probably already have EB Lvl 4 so the double carrots are redundant. The exception will be that this will probably be a subscription people take if they’re level 4 and want to buy their way to level 5, and people on Lvl 5 may take it to protect that position. Honestly feels like getting and keeping Lvl 5 status will be what drives this, which isn’t going to leave a good taste in those buyers mouths I imagine. In fact I question why they don’t just make the subscription unlock level 5, while leaving the existing 10k slots open (or however many it is) open for non subscribers based on purchase volume.

I think a combination of discounts on games (be it new releases or at least 5-10% discount on second hand purchases), free shipping and maybe advanced access to preorders or sales, might have been more compelling.

  • im thinking of joining also, and trading in two consoles. is it worth it? stacking the extra 5% might make the money back and get the free gift? anyone know what the free gift chosces are even.?

  • Weird they removed the 3 month option now?
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/ebworld/plus

I can still see reference to it in the T&C's
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/ebworld/terms#section-12

    • Update - I went into the store and turns out the 3 month option is now instore only.
EB Games also confirmed this via FB Message as well.
