    100 Minutes Calls

    *30-second increments

So 50-100min calls are included, not 100

    • Or 200 one second calls as each call is rounded up to 30 seconds. I don't think it's even possible to get exactly 100 minutes of inclusive calls unless the one and only call of the month is exactly 100 minutes. A very rare case

  • Now that amaysim 1 year calls and sms @$60 is gone

    It still appears available.

    • I can't see that on their website?

      • It was only if you were already a customer (even if only pay as you go). It was there last week, but if you try to switch now it’s gone.

        • but if you try to switch now it’s gone.

          Still showing for me…

Maybe it doesn't show for new accounts ?

        • It is avaible, but for some reason not on my data ones. Just weird

        • +2

Ah, once I login to my account try to switch plan, and it is now there. Will be a good plan for FIL, as he only calling frds, never touch any apps or internet.

@kaikor: Yes. Great plan if you don’t internet

            • @fozzie:

Yes. Great plan if you don’t internet

              especially for calling 'frds'

    • If I only needs 1-3GB data for the month, any other cheap alternatives? Thanks in advance

      • no

        • Thx

          • @Lucyshane: You're welcome…

Nothing comes close to these plans… If 500Mb is enough, go for this one for $4. Otherwise try and get a yearly plan when on sale.

Unfortunately for monthly if you don’t want to keep changing or paying upfront dodo @ $10 a month is the cheapest alternative to this (2gb and unlimited calls/sms)
Otherwise get a 1 year cheap plan for $100-120. Ezysim have a plan for $99 atm

Internet Access is suspended After reaching 500MBs data downloads until the end of the calendar month.
    Optional Data Pack Add ONs
    1GB $7.00
    2GB $10.00
    5GB $20.00

FYI, 500MBs is not even enough for apps updates, you will be stuck without Internet on the 2nd date of each month, or pay up.

Some people have access to wifi and maybe also VOWIFI.

    • +4

This is perfect for grandparents who just need data for simple things (email, weather, WhatsApp etc) and are connected to wifi 99% of the time.

Also can be good as a spare number to deal with all the Gumtree gronks.

Obviously if you're going to be streaming YouTube on the train you need more data.

      • +2

Or an Aldi $5 365 day sim for the gronks

        Fixed that for you.

Great for my watch. Hope they have esim

      • I’m highly doubt it

  • Do the 100 minutes include incoming calls?

    • Hm interesting question. Almost all plans include unlimited calls now, but I also can't recall any Australian plan ever charging for incoming calls, even before the days of unlimited calls.

The first time I noticed it in Singapore and Hong Kong, I was absolutely bewildered. It was so odd to me that I couldn't comprehend why "Free Incoming Calls" was being called out as a selling point…

      • I think the US 'invented' charges for incoming calls - mobile numbers are the same area code as landlines, so someone had to cover the cost of routing the number to a mobile.

  • Now that amaysim 1 year calls and sms @$60 is gone

It's still there but you need to be an existing customer first to switch to it.

This is slightly different use case I feel, you get less calls and SMS but gain 500MB data (which isn't a lot but you get nothing on Amaysim).

    • I can confirm it’s now gone. I am an existing customer and when I try to change there is not 60gb anymore.

      • Still definitely there for me. It's a prepaid account that's been active since like 2019, not sure if there was a cut off.

        • Oh yes. That’s weird it’s available on one but not on the other. I’ll remove it fro description

  • Is it possible to transfer my existing number to this plan?

    • Yes of course. Member since 2016, have you never ported your number?

  • +4

I use this for my main number and my dad's.

When Amaysim and Boost have any deals, we use those as second SIMs for data.

    Notes on Flip's mobile service:

    • For some reason, whenever I go from Redfern to Wynyard on Sydney Trains, Flip's service completely drops out (empty bars, big X), when others do not, including other Optus services such as Amaysim. It always makes me panic and think it's SIM swap fraud, but it isn't. It always comes back eventually.
    • Billing period is the calendar month, not the rolling month. So if you start part way through the month, it will be pro-rata and the next ones will start on the 1st of the next month and end on the last day of the month.
    • Usage notifications are VERY delayed. Around 2 days. It's not uncommon for the 50%, 85% and 100% notifications to come in one batch 2 days after exceeding quotas. It's best to do the counting yourself.
    • The above is important because going over the 100 SMS or calling minutes will cost you money. The 0.5GB mobile data automatically cuts off, so nothing to worry about there.
    • If you use any over-the-top messaging services (including RCS on Google Messages), they will not count towards the 100 SMS limit.
    • It is very easy to use up huge chunks of the 100 minute call quota if you phone customer support of any organisation during peak hours. If you use a second SIM for mobile data that includes unlimited calls, I would use that. Set the second SIM to a private number if you're concerned about customer service asking why you're calling from a different number.
    • No eSIM, but most people should probably opt for a physical SIM for this plan and use their eSIM slot for disposable secondary numbers from SIM deals.

Overall, putting the secondary numbers on the promotional plans and main numbers on Flip was a good choice.

We get a small backup of 100 SMS, 100 call minutes and 0.5GB of data as backup if there are any pauses in SIM deals.

We also don't ever have to worry about botched SIM ports or lost SIMs in the mail, since the numbers being ported are ultimately disposable.

All this for just $48 a year.

Downside is that it is a chore to put the secondary numbers on the Do Not Call Register. I generally don't bother. You may find out that some of the numbers have been "trashed" and you get all sorts of spam calls on it, well above the standard amount from random dialling.

One more thing I forgot to mention, somewhat related to usage monitoring:

Flip Connect's current implementation of their login portal is awful.

It sends an email with a 6 digit PIN every single time you log in. There is no way to save a token on browsers/IP addresses you usually log in from and only prompt for a 2FA code for new logins.

The mobile app simply shows which mobile services are active. It doesn't show anything for usage monitoring. Sort of defeats the purpose.

So all this on top of the delayed usage tracking makes it even harder to monitor your usage. You're better off counting everything yourself.

This may change in the future if Flip Connect ever gets a half decent product person.

I'm on this plan and I like it. But I have found one small inconvenience, although it won't affect most people.

With Flip, you can't activate call diversion by dialling a short code on your phone. It can be activated, but only by Flip, you have to call them.

I want to use call diversion, because I'm going overseas soon, and I don't really want to port out and port back for such a short period. So I'll be getting a new SIM and phone number, probably from Felix, and diverting my incoming calls to that number.

  • Is it possible to port with this? I've pretty much never used post-paid so I'm confused by the one month notice.
If I decide to port to..idk woolworths mobile some time, do I have to call these guys to do it? Or is it just the normal activate woolworths sim, enter this number and they'll handle it?

    • +1

Yes you will be able to port out. I’m not sure about the 1 month. You might need to call and give them notice and then move the normal way. But call to clarify

  • They know their judo well

  • When I go to order and try to move my existing number over it asks for an account number. Optus doesn't give accounts numbers, I think…

    • If it’s postpaid it needs account number. Prepaid doesn’t

  • This plan would be ideal for me if it weren't for the lack of roaming.

  • if I keep the existing number I wonder at what points my number will be transferred over? Is it when I order the sim or when I activate the sim? If it happens when I order the Flip Sim, how long does it take for the sim to arrive (I am in Perth Metro) and during that time I will not have any service?
