Samsung Is Refusing $1 Care+ Plan

During S24 Ultra pre-order in Jan 2024, you could purchase 1 year Samsung care+ for $1 if you forgot to include it during purchase. It was free as part of purchase.

I purchased it for $1 post purchase and received the confirmation but Samsung is now claiming that it was a test product and that you could never purchase it for $1.

I want to swap the mobile but Samsung is refusing to honour the care+.Chargeback is out of scope due to time period.

How can I get it resolved?

    • Fixed - I was supposed to say earlier this year.

      • usually for applecare+ they send you a confirmation letter. do you have one of those?

@Ash-Say: Your Order = Settings_Test_Australia didn't set off any alarm bells for you?

@[Deactivated]: Bought it directly from Samsung Australia via link below
              https://rg2.samsungcareplus.com/au#/

Just saw that email confirmation came through after purchase and didnt read the full description until Samsung pointed out this test text in description during swap request.

Screen has been broken so need to swap phone which is way cheaper than getting the screen repaired.

Why would they have test care plan product on their website?

              • @Ash-Say:

Why would they have test care plan product on their website?

Why did millions of peaolpe get stuck at airports, couldn't buy groceries or run their businesses a few weeks ago?
How many pricing errors do we see here? $149 speakers for $1.49, etc.
Because software test data and bugs can make it to production.

              • @Ash-Say: Did you buy with a Credit Card that has Smash Screen Protection? (e.g. AMEX)

          • @Ash-Say: anything specific saying your device is covered?

            • @askbargain: You need to register your IMEI during purchase of care plan.

          • @Ash-Say: Literally says test on it lol

What are you going to charge back on? The $1? It also doesn't say what phone it is for…

@CodeXD: I'm sure they'd be more than happy to refund the $1… after about 100 emails to them.

@CodeXD: Seriously, what a joke. I suppose if my car's certificate of insurance had the word "test" in it, that's grounds for my insurer to claim it's invalid, despite me having paid the advertised price?

For all we know, it might have looked perfectly valid on the Samsung website. The only indication (that we know of) that the product was a 'test' product was the "Settings_Test_Australia" wording in the invoice, but you can hardly blame the OP for missing that (or even just being oblivious to what it meant).

I think the more important question is if Samsung realised they were selling this 'test product' at fault (which I'm guessing they did eventually, because they must have corrected it at some point), did they reach out to customers who bought it at $1 to let them know? And if not, why not? They were at fault for allowing the 'test product' to be sold in the first place, so at the very least they should have been expected to reach out to affected customers.

          • @Ash-Say: Mate. Check what you purchased next time.

I got burned by something similar in the past (McDonalds is a serial offender coz their self-serve more often than not, did not give you the receipt and you ended up arguing with the counter when they took too long to make the order and their queue screen auto-resolved after certain period)

@burningrage: No one would intentionally purchase a “test” product with no value. If it was an error on Samsung’s side they should have notified affected customers and offered them the opportunity to buy the actual cover product. At the very least they would have been obliged to refund people. Since Samsung didn’t do this I think it’s on them. I’d say you’d have a strong case with your local consumer affairs body.

    Bikies

    • The only way to get this solved.

  • Is it worth offering to pay the normal 2-year fee in lieu of receiving coverage? Or did you purchase only a 1-year service plan?

  • +2

    Lol

  • if you forgot to include it during purchase

Yeah, it doesn't look that way…

You have a valid tax invoice from Samsung Australia with the SamsungCare+ listed. You paid consideration (the amount is irrelevant).

Lodge a complaint with Samsung. If they refuse to comply lodge a complain with your state Department of Fair Trading. They will make a finding and contact Samsung on your behalf.

If they still refuse to comply you can lodge a court case for damages through Small Claims Court. Depending on your state this will be NCAT, VCAT, QCAT, etc.

lol. Many here keep trying to warn others about samsung dodgy behaviour but few listen….. HOWEVER this is clearly the users error

  • Samsung's website is glitchy and a horrible piece of software baked by an equally awful practices.

Your purchase doesn't look valid - it's something that should never have been exposed to an real user or labelled clearly enough that they stayed away.

Why wouldn't you have just selected it since it was free ??

Why do you want to swap it now ?
