Cheap Tablets for Toddlers

Hi all,

I'm looking for a 2x cheap tablets to keep our <2yo twin toddlers entertained on a 9 hour overseas flight.

The kids will be sitting on our laps. We usually can't sit next to each other due to restrictions on infant lifejackets, so we will probably need two.

I don't expect the tablets to last very long with toddlers, so we want to spend as little as possible. Happy to go used/refurbished. They just need to be able to run VLC and play YouTube videos.

If we can find something around $50 we'll be happy…

Thanks for your help.

i think you'll be looking more like around $90 ish - then prob just load youtube and pre-download the videos for offline use assuming you have premium.

i will say though if they are distracted for even 30 min when constrained on a plane it will be a christmas miracle.

You probably cant find anything for $50 other than a 2nd hand originally cheap android off amazon tablet. There are $100 tablets around but they can be flaky and difficult to use.

TBH, you will likely get use out of a tablet with a kid for the next 20 years but certainly many many times over the next 5 years (car trips, restaurants, just when they are driving you nuts). So biting the bullet and buying a refurb ipad (or samsung/something reliable) is worth the $$. There are some chinese adroid tablets that arent too bad as well

Or ask around family if they have any old ipads/tablets sitting in a drawer somewhere. Dont try to update them to the latest OS but you can still use to download movies and so forth, should still work more or less on wifi

Was able to get some cheap iPads secondhand from kid's school for $50. Work fine.

Look for second hand leappads - I bought two for my girls for under $50 and they loved them - They are only now graduating to ipad as they are school age.

  • Thanks everyone for all the tips!
