AA/Qantas: SYD/MEL/BNE to Vegas/Denver/Portland/Seattle $1257, BNE - SFO $1049, Return + More @ Google Flights

490

Another big bunch of great fares to cities across the USA. Flights are on American Airlines & Qantas, with one stop (sometimes 2) along the way. I have tried to only include prices for the fares wit reasonable stops (in some cases there are cheaper fares available but with super long stops).
Bags seem to be included on some legs/routes - make sure to check first.
I haven't provided all the links because there are loads. But, just search the route you are interested in through Google Flights using the airport codes here.
Dates are from August 2024 to June 2025 excluding December, and availability varies a bit by route. There are also loads more cities coming in at around $1450, so if yours isn't here its still worth searching.
These prices are all direct with the airline.

    AA/Qantas

Can anyone confirm if it includes checked in baggage allowance?

Looking at Orlando, but when click through google flights to AA it says nothing about checked in baggage allowance and words along the line that checked in luggage fees are applicable at each check in point.

Do you have to pay luggage fees checking in from second flight from Dallas to Orlando and vice versa or is it all included if it's on the one ticket?

Don't want to be stung with additional luggage fees

      Depends;
International Booking from Australia to North America
Option 1 - Booking on Qantas.com.au - 1 free bag up to 23kgs will be permitted for all sectors, even if the domestic sector is on American Airlines
Option 2 - Booking on American Airlines in Basic Economy on AA73/74 from SYD-LAX, AA7/8 from BNE-DFW with or without continuing American Airlines domestic sectors - No Free Bags
Option 3 - Booking on American Airlines in Main Cabin or above - 1 free bag up to 23kgs will be permitted for all sectors
Option 4 - Booking on American Airlines with Qantas being the carrier from Australia to North America - 1 free bag up to 23kgs will be permitted for all sectors

As per always recommended, book directly with the airline and not through an OTA/TA, even if its a little bit more

      https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/baggage/checked-baggage-…

      • Thanks for this.

Can you let me know where you got the above details from?

On AA site it comes up as pricing is for main cabin, But then has option to upgrade to main cabin, and under baggage says Baggage allowance and charges are applied at each checked portion.

        • Are you booking a flight from Australia to North America? Or an internal ticket within the US.

1st checked bag is complimentary for:

Or when traveling to these destinations:

          Australia^

^Excluding Basic Economy for tickets issued on/after June 7, 2023

I flew AA earlier this year MCO to LAX, I vaguely remember having to pay for luggage…actually i can say for sure, i remember being annoyed about it lol. No way around it. US sucks that way, the listed price is almost never the final price, thier consumer laws a messed up…it slightly cheaper if you prepay though.

      • Yes for Domestic Saver Redemptions (X) on American Airlines you do need to pay for checked in luggage

  • SYD>SFO Qantas through AA. is it still a qantas A380 plane? the flight number says AA7374 i thought it would of said QF

    • Thats a bit odd AA7374/AA7373 is the codeshare for QF11/12 from SYD - LAX which is on the A388.

AA7397/AA7396 is the codeshare for QF73/74 from SYD - SFO which is operated by the B789.

      • Sorry got confused. i was planning SYD > LAX (layover 21h) > SFO. i purchased SYD>SFO united direct for $1780 2 weeks ago. now i see at $1360 with a LAX layover which wouldn't of been bad since i have family there.

Are these valid for the direct Sydney-Las Vegas flights for the Nrl game??

  • I'm interested in going to Canada

Lots of flights to via Vancouver - e.g. Brisbane - San Fran via Vancouver (air Canada). Only $833 return.

Cheapest I can get direct flights to VC is 1400 for same dates.

What's the risk of just booking these bargain stop over flights and just bailing on the 2nd leg?

    • +3

If you book return, they will cancel your flight back home

      • Yikes. Guess I won't be doing that.

Don't miss the fentanyl and drug slums of Canada and USA.
      Look up Hastings Street.

      • I used to live on 12th and Granville, not too far from Hastings street Going down some streets in Hastings in China Town was pretty scary ( Fentanly wasn't an issue back then, it was more smack and speed back then). The fentanyl epidemic is a harsh reality in some of those areas, especially in Winnipeg where my wife is from. I really feel sorry for people trapped in that vicious cycle, its soul crushing being in this areas. I very bleak outlook on our dystopian future ahead. People forget this is a biproduct of big pharma.

It's so surreal, seeing one of the wealthiest place in the world descend into a hellish landscape like this and many other NA cities I visited.
From Vancouver all the way down to San Diego. From Vancouver through to Edmonton/Calgary. It was dystopian as (profanity) at times surrounded by natural beauty and mansions.
I reckon we're not too far behind once the seed starts here.
Australian's simply don't get how good we have got it here till it's gone.
          Weak men create hard times.

    • Which dates did you get for $833? I could not get it

      • I was having a casual browse through March. 3rd till 14th if I remember correctly.

  • Anyone had any luck booking? I tried to book BNE -> LAX last night and received an error code.

Phoned AA and the AA phone consultants have the same issue. Apparently QAN have blocked some of the legs and they can’t be booked.

    • Not sure what your dates are but Qantas sale is now live too BNE - LAX $1069 nonstop - might have more luck with those!

      • Same price to San Francisco on some dates to

  • Heard great things about Portland

    • +1

Lol maybe pre 2018. Not when I was there in 2019.

      • Yeah nah I was joking. Curious to hear what you saw though

        • Where do I start?
Saw a lot of homelessness and insular lifestyles. Saw open theft and fights. GTA anyone?
American/Canadian cities felt so bland after experiencing living in Asia and socialising with Europeans.
Felt it was overhyped tbh, I wouldn't waste my time and money going there in hindsight.
          Each to their own ofc.

  • Should I buy my Vegas flights for April now or wait a bit longer?

    • If those dates suit you I think its a good price so I would probably buy now. That said, I think there is a good chance these prices or similar will come up again before April.

      • How long will the prices stay around this? Will they go up before the weekend?

  • I think the price changed back to normal price now?

i.e. Google flight give the price from MEL to ORD for 861USD/1270AUD. But when you select AA and redirect to AA booking, it will shows like the normal price 11xxUSD/17xxAUD.

Btw, I'm looking for a ticket from Nov-4-2024 and back on Jan/Feb/March 2025

    • yep, totally possible these are gone already, or that route anyway

  • thanks for the prompt.

I recently bought United tickets and their prices have come down due to this. Good thing they do flight credit for differences!
