I like the Hazelnut and Mocha. Moccona have something similar and can be quite a bit cheaper, but I find them kind of bland (they were good a couple of years ago until they changed the recipe and shrank the sachets).

    • They don’t froth as nicely either. Feels more watery.

    • How do you make your cup of mocha?

I pour in sachet, then add water between 70 to 100 degrees (depending on where I am and how quickly I want to drink it). Then I sometimes add a splash of cold milk.

      Any suggestions for improvement welcome.

      • Hot water, milk and sugar for me. It's a nice change from regular coffee.

Add cold milk, then add the satchel (so it doesn't stick to the bottom), then stir to get all the lumps out, then add the hot water.

Adding hot water straight away I feel gives it a bit of a burnt taste.

        • +1

yeah! the burnt taste is kinda why I've been adding the milk!

I will try this and sing your praises should it work.

          Thanks

Packets of salt with very little coffee not good for your health .

    • +2

the Mocha has 1% DI sodium

    • +3

      Surely you mean sugar?

      • -3

Nope , check out the sodium in each packet I'm not saying don't buy or drink this stuff I've have it in the past 2 a day & I was having bp issues & my doctor told me to cut my salt intake & I don't add salt to anything I found not drinking these 2 or 3 times a day lowered my BP .

        • +7

That's a you problem right there. Just because your doctor is telling you to have less means very little for others. Sodium is a requirement for good health in most cases I would argue.

And uhm, the amount of salt in these is negligible as hell anyways, what the hell?

        • +7

Yeah the sodium is raising your blood pressure not the caffeine

        • you, you, you and you. imagine living with it, and by it a i mean you.

        • +3

          Two things to consider:
          1) Add some potassium to your diet. Sodium contracts, potassium relaxes. Have a banana, or if BG levels are also a concern, an avocado 🥑

          2) See a different doctor. Unless they're seeing a high presence of sodium in your body (chronic dehydration, bloating, edema), this is antiquated advice that's been used for decades, back from when salt was used as a preservative.
Whilst too much salt is bad for the body, factors such as smoking, transfats, poor sleep, stress and age have bigger impacts on blood pressure.

Now, I don't expect you to take medical advice from a stranger online, but I hope it piques your interest enough to seek out your own preventative measures.

Doesn't have to be medical white papers, there's plenty of doctors on YouTube who give solid advice for free.
          All the best.

Thats what i thought, 9 grams per small sachet is a lot.

        • +2

Half of the serving size is sugar

  • What flavour would you recommend?

    • +2

The mocha and latte are both good, IMHO
I do these in the 98% sugar free versions and just as tasty as the regular sugar versions

      • Are the 98% versions sweetened in some way other than sugar, or are they just less sweet?

        • Sweetened with artificial sweetener. They are generally pretty bland and I put two sachets in a mug to get a passable drink. They aren't overly sweet. I can taste the bitterness from whatever sweetener they use - there's an aftertaste like you get from artificially sweetened soft drinks and cordial.

Looking at the ingredients list on the 98% sugar free mocha there is more salt and more erythritol (sweetener) than coffee and then there's also Stevia mixed in there. Box says "excess consumption may cause laxative effect"….

I ran out of 3 in 1 and even instant coffee so I dipped into my wife's cache of 98% mocha….. Time to go to the shops and stop drinking this stuff!

        • Yeah if you like a stronger coffee, I throw a teaspoon of instant coffee with it to give it a bolder taste
Its essentially sachet coffee, defs no barrista made Melbourne fancy shit here lolz

    • Hazelnut and Salted Caramel. In that order.

  • These are just average but much better than International Roast

I haven't bought these for years. I read somewhere that they aren't as good as they used to be. Is that the case (I normally get the strong cap)

    • As far as I'm aware there have been no changes, maybe you're thinking of Moccona who changed theirs a couple of years back?

      • no, never liked Moccona anyway, and haven't bought it for decades. I had just heard that the Nescafe ones weren't as frothy or nice tasting as they used to be. I have been buying Jarrah Vienna coffee mix instead (I usually tweak that with a little Nescafe Blend 43 Espresso as well)

        • After a quick check my earliest order for these was in 2019, the taste is the same, maybe it's a little less frothy than it used to be? Maybe?

      • Never had "old" moccona, but few months ago I tired one and It was so (profanity) shit lmfao. Full of sugar like (profanity) too.

    • I don't think these have even being out for years unless rebranding, but they're the best for me (I buy latte and doubt shot latte)

      • If you mean the nescafe sachets - they’ve been available for years. Not sure about your particular variants though

    • Not sure if my mind playing tricks on me, but I feel the mocha sachets were nicer when they first came out.

These days I find the flavour varies considerably depending on water temp.

Also the stupid sachets are very hard to open sometimes.

Having said all that, I just stocked up on Mocha subscription so thanks OP. Tiny bit cheaper than when Woolies have the 10-pack at $3.50
Edit: or does Woolies have em at $3.80?

  • 38 cents a piece I buy once a month when I get 10% off in bulk works out at 34 cents when on special considering I drink 4 of these a day thats a sdaving of $60 a year.

    • 4 per day??

round it up to 5/day for those of us with OCD tendencies please

      • I like my lifestyle very much and part of that involves not giving others my money so hence can tell you 5 a day would work out a saving annually to in an exact amount for those with OCD $73 dollars, Keeping in mind their are actually 365.25 days in a Julian year though which equals 1.25 extra coffees per annum per OCD reference!

  • the vanilla latte ones are feral, may as well be drinking straight hot water

  • I quite like the Strong ones. I find they froth real well and are quite tasty with an additional sweetener capsule of Hermesetas added

  • For value, these are as good as it gets, including cost to make and taste
