Find Me a Prepaid Mobile Plan

Please help find me a new prepaid phone plan! Currently with Boost. Not happy with the price increase and looking to save more money

Requirements:

  • 20-30GB per month
  • Data Banking with no expiry/cap
  • National calls only
  • I prefer Telstra, but I'm not glued to it.
  • NO OPTUS.
  • Month-by-month plan, not yearly.
  • $35 per month budget

Other situational notes:
- I have no home internet so I do require that amount of data.
- I'm a carer for my Mum, and because of outages in the past, both of us have been unreachable because we have been on the same carrier. This has been a problem with hospitals trying to contact us for appointments and even surgery! We need to be on separate carriers. She is on Optus. I refuse to be on Optus.
- I'm in Metro Melbourne but sometimes I do work out in rural areas.

Thanks!

    Try Dr. Google

    • Specifically mobile plan comparison sites.

OP just needs to plug in thier requirements and out come several options.

      Job done

We can only comment on our experience with various providers.

    NO OPTUS.

    why not?

Optus was awful in Victoria for a long time, dunno if their 5G has improved things but I have the same aversion to them.

I used to catch the tram home from Elizabeth/Flinders St and there were always ads there for Optus 4G but absolutely no signal.

Either that or it's the whole data leak thing.

      • At southern cross, Optus has an unupgraded huawei 4G site - this means it can't anchor a 5G signal on NSA. The site at 9am in the morning would do 20mbps, mainly due to the b40 AAS.

I wrote my reasons in my post. My Mum is with Optus and we have to be on separate carriers because one of us always has to be contactable for health reasons

        • If you want some certainly with reception then Vodafone is probably not an option unless you are always in the metro area.
That leaves you with Telstra or Telstra MVNOs.

Boost is easily the best Telstra MVNO and much cheaper than Telstra
          Certainly a favourite with OBers.

Alternatively try Belong or Woolworths (everyday) mobile

NB: Telstra is rolling out increases across the board so there is no escape.

If you dont mind Vodafone network then look at Kogan Mobile
Arguably the cheapest and best value of the lot if you only require for metro use.

Why not read the post? It is already explained

Belong has $30 per month 25gb + data banking

    • Or, $35 per month for 40gb

    • Thank you!

    Aldi Mobile

Their $25 and $29 plans meet your requirements, although being prepaid, it is a 30-day period, not month-to-month.

    • 20-30GB per month ✓
    • Data Banking with no expiry/cap ✓
    • National calls only ✓ + 20 select countries
    • I prefer Telstra, but I'm not glued to it ✓ Telstra MVNO
    • NO OPTUS ✓ see above, although can't control the network of the people you are calling…
    • Month-by-month plan, not yearly ✓ close enough: 30 days
    • $35 per month budget ✓ $25-$29

Thank you!! Amazing reply, I really appreciate that. Being a carer to my Mum gives me zero free time to research this kind of thing 🙃

    https://mobile.everyday.com.au/plans/prepaid-mobile-plans

10% off a shop each month helps pay for the plan

      Thank you so much!

Why not save, stop paying $1 per GB and go yearly? Kogan (Voda) is currently doing $169 300GB $0.56 per GB; $199 500GB $0.40 per GB

I have no home internet so I do require that amount of data.

    20-30GB per month

    doesn't quite align?

this might work for you, vodafone + unlimited data (20mbps is good enough even for single person 4K streaming)

    https://felixmobile.com.au/plan
Get 50% off your first 3 months with code FELIX50. New customers only. Avail. until withdrawn. T+Cs apply.

as for signal receptions… YMMV, as much as ppl say how bad vodafone is, it all depends on the areas, in certain areas vodafone can be supeior than the other 2. (for instance vodafone is so much better on Sydyney T4 train line from Redfern towards CBD)

    Unfortunately… I agree with jv……

    https://mobile.everyday.com.au/plans/sim-only-plans

$36 per month when you attach your every day rewards.

    Double data for first 3 months.110gb -> 55gb
    1000gb data bank.

    Telstra network.
10% off a Woolworths shop in store every month.

    • But it is not the full Telstra network

      • +1

True, "We use parts of Telstra’s 5G, 4G and 3G mobile networks, covering more than 98.8% of the Australian population."

I'd rather be with Woolworths than Optus haha

Don't tell me what to do!

you tried that ?? or not first ??

    look through few pages

  • Definitely have a look at what ALDI mobile has to offer. I have not had any problems with them over the past 10 years - good value for money - good luck

  • We have all used Kogan Mobile 365 day plans for years now with no problems at all. Uses Vodafone network, so good coverage. Only negative, if applicable is it uses 4G network still, but we have had absolutely no issues.

All 365 day plans include unlimited talk / text within Australia, so your plan choice would depend on the available data. I use lowest (small) plan as mostly on nbn wifi at home. Unaware if cheaper plans are to be found elsewhere, but we are quite content to remain.
