  • Is it just me or are split systems getting more powerful? Is it due to efficiency going up? I'm sure 6/7kW used to be the top end now I'm seeing a lot of 9/10kW.

    • Had an 11kw Daiken split installed back in 2009. Not a new thing at all

    • nothing new just becoming cheaper

  • Big unit, crazy good price. No comment on the specific brand's quality.

    • Kelvinator has been making A/C for decades and refrigeration compressors even longer.
You would have seen them in your old granny's house, the brown fasciaed box mounted in the window or through the wall.

      • Agree, but no idea of their quality or reputation these days. Could be another MG/AKAI/Hilfiger/you name it.

        • Got bought by Electrolux in 1986

  • It's already out of stock. Tried to checkout.

  • I can't complain about my two Kelvinator units from a performance perspective, but the software and support is utter garbage. Maddeningly bad. At one point last year the Google connection stopped working and they tried to gaslight me into believing they never said it would work with Google. It was honestly crazy given they still had ads and materials out advertising the feature.

After dealing with the customer service people for days and getting nowhere I eventually emailed their head of customer relations. It was finally fixed within a few days.

  • I have a few Kelvinator units and am quite disappointed with them.

Two units have developed a loud noise when running (bearing I'd say) - they still function but it's not great when trying to sleep.

3 of them ice over in summer and when the ice gets large enough to be hit by the fan, it throws ice at you and makes an incredibly loud noise - refrigerant is good and filters are clean. If you turn them off after this happens, the ice melts right out the front vent.

The app is absolutely awful and it's quite tricky to set them up on the network - I even had to get an iPhone specifically to get them connected as it refused to do that on Android. Once we got them on the network they stop working with Google after about 6 months and I had to create a new account.. now I just use the app rather than Google.

Lastly our 8kw unit in the main area started leaking water down the wall after a little over 1 year which destroyed our wall mounted router, I tried pulling it apart to find the cause but nothing obvious was found.. my best guess is it being between a kitchen and lounge room meant it sucked in cooking oil which eventually stuffed something up.
Ended up replacing with a Midea which is much better.
