Will ActewAGL Price Increase in August?

I am currently looking to move from Origin to ActewAGL as Origin are increasing prices in August (129.734 cents per day and 32.098 cents per kWh).

I have found a nice deal through Econnex, with ActewAGL(Supply Charge: 83.028c/day, Peak Usage: 22.1428c/kWh). Which seems a lot less than what i'll be paying with Origin.

This does not seem to be a fixed rate plan so I am concerned the price will go up few weeks after I sign up…
And I cannot find any information on if ActewAGL will increase prices in August or by how much?

Would love to know if anyone with ActewAGL has received a letter about a price increase on the 1st of August.

Edit: The other option is Energy Australia fixed plan (0.988 per day, 30.53 c/kWh) the only advantage here is these rates will be fixed for 12 months.

    Yes, guaranteed.

    • Do you have any details on how much the increase is expected to be?

ACT is due for one of the larger increases for the eastern states. From what I’ve heard avg about 7%. May not seem like much, but some states are reducing prices. Victoria rates reduced by 2 to 3%.

        • My globird prices in Victoria increased 30% (peak rate actually increased 45%. Off peak was a generous 20% increase, daily rate was 30%). I switched to AGL here because of that. The % increase is only to the standard rate and you can get varying levels of discount off that - for whatever I had been with globird since Jan 2023 and they'd never increased my rates despite it not being fixed, I'm guessing they were playing catchup.

The new rates for ActewAGL were set as at July 1st and for most existing customers the increase it would kick in Aug 1st, but I would have thought that any new sign ups would start on the current rates - https://www.actewagl.com.au/-/media/files/plan-pricing/2024/…

          • @freefall101: My gas rates increased but my electricity rates decreased. Yea im on a market contract so discounts taken into account etc. will be different for people on the standing offers. And yeah the rates on the website should be the new rates

  • Good thing about ActewAGL is that they price match.

Prices were generally increased on 1 July https://www.actewagl.com.au/legal/pricing-information/price-…

  • Your rate with Origin is crap.

I just got my increase letter from them, and will soon be on 20.867 cents per kWh, 84.326 cents per day supply, and 9c FIT.

    • Is that the old ‘origin variable’ plan? As soon as that expires your rates will hit ~26c/kWh.

    • Yea you have much better rates! I am curios what plan you are on? and if you reside in ACT?

      • Yes I am in the ACT, and I am pretty sure I am on the family and friends plan which has been posted on here before.

The notice just says it is "Origin Go Variable plan ending xx June 2025"

        • That is interesting, i think I signed up with that "family and friends plan" a year ago too, seems like my rates have gotten a lot worse somehow.
I doubt origin will try to keep me around so I will churn to Actewagl

          • @Anon257: Yeah they tried to roll me onto a crap plan when it ended in June this year, but when I went to their website to look what else was available, it had one with the rates above (actually slightly better).

            • @djkelly69: Okay I looked at my rates in the Origin app and it says my current supply charge is 74c and Usage is 18.45c/kWh.
I have received 2 emails on the exact same day from origin on the exact same day regarding price increases. Very confusing.

One email says I will end up on the same rates as @djkelly69: 20.867 cents per kWh, 84.326 cents per day supply.

The other email says ill get bumped to: 32.098c per kWh and 129.734c supply.

Will call Origin tomorrow to clarify, but now that I have shopped around the EnergyAustralia fixed deal seems tempting (even though slightly more expensive) cause I might be able to get $155 Cashrewards cashback.
