Seiko Prospex 'Panda' One Hundreth of a Second Speedtimer Solar Chronograph Mens Watch SFJ001P

The Speedtimer Prospex watch collection represents Seiko’s professional timekeeping heritage and takes inspiration from the brand’s innovative history.

This particular model SFJ001P1 is powered by a new in-house solar chronograph calibre equipped with a stopwatch which measures time to the nearest 1/100th of a second. This new release model commemorates the 40th anniversary of Seiko’s world-first analogue quartz chronograph, the 7A28. The dial of this particular timepiece achieves visibility and legibility due to its separate indicators for time and chronograph functions – its monochrome colourways give it the nickname from Seiko fans as a ‘panda’ style. Conveniently solar-powered; the watch charges from both natural and electric light.

If it was 39mm it would be perfect for me.

    Great price though

Nooooo. This isn't the good looking speed timer… Go for the older design much more attractive (purely subjective of course… But almost objective in this instance)

    • Yeah a wouldn't say it's older but more the original design (agree very popular and tastefully done). These others are a very acquired taste, but crazy in operation.

  • What is the function of the left and right dials?

I love Seiko but this looks pretty wack imo

Yep - that watch is gross.

Absolutely fugly. I like Seiko’s design language, but this watch reminds of one of those silly oversized Nixons.

  • I'm looking forward when the Prospex Pouge gets released 👌

She's got a face only a mother could love

  • Is this Shrek's watch?!

  • Sorry but it looks like a toy watch.

Saw it in person and felt it was refreshingly different. The comments here have made me wonder if I saw the same watch as everyone is just brutal. Not one comment is positive even though the post has 25+ upvotes.

True, a lot of things are different in real life and worth checking out in store for those interested.

Is it a cool? Yes, would I buy it? No. People are allowed no to like things.
I guess you'd want to have a need to time things quite often as the complication to tell the time is pretty small compared to the watches whole dial.

      • Thanks. I get that.
To me diver watches are… Unless we all dive, i find the styling.. overused.. like I am over it…
This looks so different, especially if you hold it.
Try zooming in the face on the images on the site.. i don't find it ugly by any means..
I am just surprised there is not one positive comment.. I am questioning my own taste hehe

I think it would look good on you, and good price.
Do it, the main thing is that you like it.

          • @G-rig: I saw it at Myer or David Jones can't recall and would want to buy in person if I do (still out of my spending power at sale). I don't know if Starbuy have a store, seems online only.

@archieduh: Hey buddy if you like it. None of our comments should influence your decision. It is an extreme concept that not many will like but it's in their lineup for people like you. So go and enjoy..
Also they do have a physical store .. not sure if is still in alexandria

        • Never let others determine what you like/don't like! Especially with watches where there is more than enough vitriolic group-think.

  • I was talking to someone who deals with the 'other' Japanese brand for a living and according to him these have been a commercial failure in Australia. Incredibly slow moving stock.
On one hand I think "well what do you expect with such a fugly design and relatively high price point for a consumer level watch!", but on the other hand I applaud Seiko for taking the risk and pushing on with releasing these. The microbrands are stomping on the big consumer level brands in terms of distinct design and unique pieces so I think it's actually a really good thing to see Seiko take a risk with something different.

TLDR: this watch definitely isn't for me however I hope it really clicks with some people and they take the opportunity to grab something fairly unique.
