I don't get it, you can get a Switch for $200 on FB marketplace
Amazing how prices haven't budged at all. I got mine for $399 in 2018
yeah true, prices have stayed firm.
To be honest I am surprised more place don't have it on sale and start clearing stock, I feel like the next generation Switch is not far away at all.
That’s been the sentiment for the past 3 years. New switch is right around the corner… meanwhile Nintendo dropping fresh 480p 25fps abominations monthly.
no, not talking about the rumours or the OLED. there was a developer who leaked in an interview that he was told to postpone the release of a game by 8 to 12 months to release on launch of next gen Nintendo console. So by that note, we realistically can expect a new console to drop by JUNE 2025 and as early MARCH 2025
@avjaMASH: I’m sure it will sell well but there is more competition now with these portable pc handhelds… however, Switch will be far cheaper and better optimised… until Switch 3 comes out in 2034.
@EitherWayUp: people don't buy switch just for the portability, all Nintendo needs to sell is exclusive games. Pokemon, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, and the console will sell, regardless if its HD, FHD, 4k, or potato, if they have a point of difference, they will sell.
@avjaMASH: So Nintendo told them to hold off and lose all the potential sales they could have gotten on this gen? Some things never change.
@smartazz104: Actually no. So in the interview, the developer was saying how they made a mistake by releasing it earlier than later as Nintendo told them to hold off, because the console was underpowered for this game and it would have a much better impact and reception if they waited, and put a bit more effort to put it on the next console. So essentially, the dev said, oops, we made a mistake, you live and you learn. He also said, oops, no there is nothing confirmed for the next 12 months that they know of (classic Tom Holland / Mark Ruffalo style leak).
This shows that the Switch has captured a market with no competition, hence no need to drop price to compete. Sure there are handheld PC platforms, but they have a very different target audience to the Switch. Nintendo maintaining platform lock of their main IP definitely secures their market share (Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem, etc.)
It's a market nintendo made themselves, it's 90% first party games and 10% the price point. A Legion Go or ROG Ally are really the only things that come close but at ~ $1000 it's hard to get the mainstream audience to make the investment and you still don't get Nintendo's first party switch games (Unless emulation but doubt they would play very well and is then extra steps that people don't generally want to do)
Yeah I payed about this price within 6 months of launch.. and it was hackable too
Taking into account inflation it's cheaper now
Just checked Amazon and I paid $329 in 2018. Crazy that prices have been that sticky.
That's a solid bargain back then.
My partner wanted to buy it and I assured her in 2-3 years it would be half the price… Still waiting
Thanks @alvian for adding the Free uber delivery bit. Forgot to add it but by the time i got back to do so you did :-) cheers.
This deal makes me feel like playing zelda now lol
meh just emulate for free.
I’ll tell my 6 year old that next time she wants to play Animal Crossing
What device do you suggest for emulation…
Any PC from last 7 years or handheld, steam deck etc.
Some of the best Switch games are Wii U ports (Mario Kart 9, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario 3D World, etc, etc) so for those decade-old PCs are fine too.
Not sure why you got downvoted, maybe people are forgetting the Switch has the hardware of a 5 years old smartphone? Or they don't buy the games, so they mistake emulation for piracy…?
@ItsMeAgro: Mario kart 9?
is this the hackable version of the switch? That you can install android on?
No. Only the early releases of the non-oled were easily hacked.
This might be with a modchip etc but it's harder.
Only certain HAC-001(day 1 release models) serials are "unpatched" and can be hacked using a jig in the joycon rail and a payload delivery. All Switches are able to be hacked with a modchip. HAC-001(01) being the *easiest (2 ((tiny)) solder joints) and the OLED being the most difficult (PCB grinding and much trickier soldering). *Easy if you have some micro soldering experience.
No, and not being hackable is the only reason I have not purchased one.
Hmm thinking of getting this for my 6 year old nephew. Should I wait?
I'm waiting for Switch 2 for my 6 yr old. I am not paying these crazy prices for something as old and under powered as this.
Yep, I'm also holding out to get my kids good quality Switches… I will not pay a premium for this garbage quality!
I will pay a premium for a quality product but I wont pay a premium for old gear that is scheduled to be soon replaced. Just like I wouldn't buy a car or TV new now that was originally released in 2017. Each to their own.
Original Switch launched on March 3, 2017
Played it takes two on PC; bought another on switch, the graphics, especially cutscenes was so bad (no idea why they didnt just pre-render them??). The frame rates are so low it makes me dizzy.
Just wait for switch 2
Can OG switch take a hint from Joe F Biden and drop off to make room for next generation?
Just saying alot of people are selling cheap on marketplace. Alot of FOMO selling from the previous DJ deal
Grabbed a near new oled with 4 pokemon games, supermario game and another random games for less than $400.
Checked the games only on cex and they have a sell value over $300
And just grabbed an official case with Grip in excellent condition for $5 . Retails for about $40
Same here
Bought the Switch OLED few weeks ago that was in very good condition from cashsavvy for $299 with lets sing 2024 and 2 mics then sold that game and mic back to them for $10 so the switch was $289.
Came in the box but just missing joycon endcap strap thingos but slap on a tempered glass screen protector and the minimal micro scratches can hardly be seen.
FB marketplace has heaps of $200 switch v2 and even switch lites (which is too expensive) and also delusional people selling the switch v2 with no games for $300+.
Cant wait till Taki Udon releases the switch lite oled upgrade then the hdmi version in another sku
Bought a mint condition OLED from cashies for $250 for 11 year old's birthday. I asked her if she was okay with a secondhand one, but after I gave it to her she asked if it was new. It came with everything including the wrapping for everything. The good thing about Cashies is the 90 day warranty, I'm not confident buying something like that on marketplace.
Wow… You got a pretty good bargain for $250
Cashsavvy only give a 30 day warranty
Mine had the wrapping but everything was outside of the wrapping
lol
Totally. Marketplace can be a minefield.
Not even OLED
