I just got caught out with a $50 prepaid renewal on Amaysim, not realising they switch on auto-renew each time you activate a new or sim, or port to them.

I had to ask for refund from amaysim saying i did not authorise this transaction. They happily refunded the money.
On my recent transactions, i also noticed that the auto-renew is switched back on.

Just use cards that you can disable online payment feature in bank app/website for example. After I use online payment/shopping, usually I disable online payment feature in the bank's app. NAB, Upbank and even Wise has this feature and also virtual cards (Upbank and Wise that I have). Or just disable the card temporarily until you need the card.

That often doesn't work for renewal payments.
Or just use Paypal. I checked Amaysim website allows to change payment option to Paypal. I only put Wise cards in Paypal (0 balance in Paypal account). Don't keep/leave your money in Paypal. My Wise cards (include virtual) remain disabled until I need it again.
Paypal cannot charge disabled cards. Any transactions will decline, even with renewal payments. Also we can remove automatic payment in Paypal.
