Leaking Chimney - Please Help

Hi! Can someone help me figure out what I need to do to fix my fireplace's leaking chimney?

On the roof there is this wider pipe (7.5") and in it a loose, narrower pipe (6") with a cap (is it called a cowl?). But this specific cowl that's on there has a wide skirt covering the bigger pipe. The problem is that this skirt has rusted through and is now letting rain in.

Do I replace the whole cap on the 6 inch pipe, and where can I find one with a skirt?

Heck, I don't even know the right terminology, caps, cowls, skirts…?

Any help appreciated!

It's a one word answer. Bunnings. Take the old one if you need to.

It's a flue and yes you are after the cowl. Is the flue double or triple skinned? Most outer flues are 10.25".

    Like this?

    • Thanks for the info.

There are two pipes, the outer is 7.5" and the inner is 6".Does that mean it's double skinned? The inner is the one with the cowl attached.

The one your link has an outer size of 10.25" so that's too big.

I was looking at this one:

But I don't understand the 6-8 inch size, like which is it 😂

The 6" is the inner flue dimension (which the cowl sits in) and the 8" is the outer flue dimension (which the cowl covers).

    • Thanks, but these don't have the additional "skirt" that my current one has to cover the outer skin from rain. See pic in OP

Yes sorry you need something more like this then https://www.abindustries.com.au/product-page/wood-fire-cowl-….
It would help your shopping and enquiries if you stop talking in inches in a country that's been metric for over 50 years. There's only one thing Aussie men measure in inches and anything you want to buy is going to be in mm's. ie your 6 inch inner is a 150mm cowl.
What amazes me is modern galvanising on yours. Lol. (Chinese made maybe?) I live in a house with a 60 year old Galvanised chimney cowl on the roof and not one speck of rust.
good luck finding the right one i think with a few phone calls you'll be sorted. I googled "double skinned chimney cowl with skirt" to find that one there are others. Cheers.

        • Well i'm wrong again and i see from your other link they are selling them in inches from an Aussie company.
