@El cheepo: Sarcastic or not, these are sports in the olympics which only have slightly more physical activity(maybe less for shooting) than esports
The athletes wouldn't stand a chance against these eSports professionals, hence they are getting their own Olympics…

I have a problem with it considering there's no world federation or association governing it. It's still rather wild west territory dominated by corporations. Leagues come and go on whims, often based on corporate expectations rather than actual game and league capacity.
Then there's the question of what games, how to choose the players, how to separate from corporate sponsors etc.
Agreed. Smells like a money grab by both the IOC (guarantee Saudi Aramco will be a major sponsor) and the major gaming corporations, along with a healthy dose of sports-washing by Saudi again.
At least they probably won't have to employ and exploit thousands of migrant workers…

Esports in the olympics makes sense but actually implementing it seems difficult as you would have to pick particular games which has a lot of potential problems associated with it.
For inclusivity, there should also be a para-e-lympics.

To be fair the skill level for some games and the level of training you have to do to be competitive would be far higher than many sports. So makes sense.
Not sure it needs to be part of the Olympics exactly, but good that it's getting more recognition. Some of the boomers above seem a bit unhappy but you'll always have people who don't like change. Oh well.
