    This is a very old Receiver - doesn't have HDMI nor does it decode the HD Audio on Blu-ray discs.

      But it has component and s-video, don't see that too often these days.. ;)

      Lack of HDMI is probably a deal-breaker for most people.

      I like how the inputs have labels like VCR1 and VCR2 yet it has 7.1..

    IIRC, this is a 2006 model, so if it's "brand new" it's been sitting in a warehouse for at least 6 years.

    edit: Looked it up. Released Jan 2006.

      Yup - by the time you add shipping, it's into the mid-$400s. A Denon AVR-1312 (or newer AVR-1513) would be a much better option for that sort of price, with HDMI inputs and HD audio decoding.

      Sorry OP, but it gets a negative from me…

    I bought the receiver 5 years ago for $480. I still use it in my theatre room and without a need for hdmi it won't be replaced until it dies. Great amp. But this is no great bargain

      Agree! I have the model before it, must be about 8 years old. Love it, great unit, impressive sound - it is in our lounge and gets used every day……but old technology.

      Agree no HDMI is not a killer.. I still have my Yamaha DSP AX1 from.. er… 12 years ago? Still an amazing bit of kit… I am not fully convinced that newer is always better …

        If you were looking for a replacement though, you'd be looking for HDMI as a minimum correct?
        I also have a non-HDMI receiver and will similarly keep it until it dies, but when that happens, I wont be going out to buy a non-HDMI (or whatever is the standard connectivity) unit.

          No… I would be looking at what was best value for the sound… I would probably take something that was top spec 5 years back over this years budget model still.

          I would probably end up buying the heaviest :)

    Note the quoted RRP is for both the AVR and DVD player combined and is the correct RRP when these models were current, being several generations old now, this is an ok price.

    It is good gear and will be a better quality AVR than you can usually get for this price, however lacking HDMI and the HD audio from Blu-ray will turn many off.

    You can add a Blu-ray player with 7.1 analogue outputs and connect to the 7.1 analogue inputs on the AVR to get the HD audio from Blu-ray.

    This thing is really old, i bought this model for my uncle years ago for like 600 dollars with that same DVD player. The sound is pretty good though, and the quality is top shelf. But 385 dollars now for such an old receiver is not really worth it, considering that most people whom buy these receiver now would have a LCD or Plasma that have HDMI plugs.

    Also, the Marantz DVD player has a problem with playing lot of DVD discs, it is better that you use it as an Audio CD player.

    I can understand the delivery charge, since the Marantz receiver is really heavy due to the huge heatsink and integrated power.
