[NSW, QLD, SA, NT, ACT] Beef Rump Steak $17.85 1.05kg, Sausage Varieties 550g $5, Lean Salt Reduced Silverside $12/kg @ Coles

270

Some meat specials that seem okay. Prices may vary by location. These prices were showing for me in QLD.

Rump $17.85 ($17/kg)

Salt Reduced Silverside $12/kg

(Probably good for the currently popular no boil slow cooker silverside methods doing the rounds. I found it too salty with regular silverside.

Sausages and Chipolatas $5 550g (chicken, beef, pork etc)

Thanks for finding. I checked all states now rump $17/kg NSW, ACT, QLD, SA, NT
$20/kg VIC and WA 😕 Silverside also not on special in VIC, but sausages are. will update post.

      • $20/kg for me in SA (Munno Para)

  • Prices were the same as OP

    [North Coast NSW)

  • We kill our own beef but even our local prices are good, might grab some snags as I always loved Coles Snags.

    $9.99 - $13.99 - Rump
    $5.99 - $8.99 - Silverside
    $8.99 - $17.99 - Snags (Fancy)

  • How long did it usually take to cook sausages (very rarely eat them), like 8-10 mins?

    • +1

Yep, about that. Just don’t have the temp too hot or they’ll go black on the outside before the centre is cooked. I usually pan fry on med-high for 2 mins then turn down to medium and turn every 1-2 minutes.

Not bad price but I will stick with my local country butcher.
He sources his stock from the paddock then controls the supply chain to his shop.
Then he dry ages it… yum. And.. it is only slightly more expensive than the quoted coles prices. (And he lives around the corner from where I live :) ). And, generally the quality is much better than supermarket meat

So always good to check out your local butcher before buying meat from supermarkets … You may be presently surprised with the quality and price compared to supermarkets

People always say this but when I go to my local butchers they are all supermarket quality and overpriced.

Aldi is just too much cheaper then butchers.

Totally agree, people always rave "my local, my local", usually same quality as Costco, but double the price. Never in my life have I come away from buying at a local butcher and said, "damn that was great meat, im glad i paid double".

There are some okay butchers near me but the prices are definitely higher. For Gold Coasters, The Meat Hub has good deals, but only really their weekly or daily specials and they are not nearby for me.

      • I've come to believe the only one's saying this are butchers or those associated with them….. :)

      • I tend to agree, when talking about the smaller high street type Butchers shops. But the big butchers like tassie meats and my local https://butchersstore.com.au/ are almost always significantly better priced than the duopoly and they actually have different grades of meat and don't shy away from telling you what grade it is. Today I bought Angus Eye Fillet for $33/kg. Very nice marbling and I can't wait till dinner time.

        • I don't doubt they might have some nice meat but "butchers store" has quite expensive prices from what I can see.

$32kg for porterhouse, Aldi is $22kg and most of their prices are like this, typical butcher prices.

Yes you got eye fill for $33, but that is not their normal price, its some sort of special/clearance price, their normal price is $46kg.

    • Great call Rob! Couldn't agree more.

Are rump steak halal / kosher?

    • +1

      Only on Sundays

      No, leave for infidels…

    Chicken schnitty.
    Parmigiana.
    Rump steak.
    Medium well!

  • Coles $15/kg and under after points has been my go for steak lately. Someone may say it's not the premium cut but my quick cooking recipe won't make diff anyway.

  • +1

Don't know about the rump but the Drover's porterhouse I bought a couple of months ago and BBQ'd was some of the best steak I've had in years. Two others that 'don' t really eat steak' went back for seconds. Pick some with decent marbling, as the packs vary a lot.

  • Anyone got a way to do this no-boil silverside in the oven, omitting the baking paper? 🙏
