haven't played CoD in over 10 years as digital copies (even 10-year-old releases) barely discount below $30 could never justify playing them when quality releases like Horizon Zero Dawn can be found for under $15 in just 3 years

time to see if i've been missing out on anything

    • +11

if i've been missing out on anything

      Doubt it.

    • +4

They are pretty ordinary. I actually didn't mind the first Modern Warfare reboot, but MW2 was utter trash and I haven't been back since.

      • I enjoyed the campaign, actually preferred it slightly to MW, but I only play the campaigns, not online, so couldn't say if it was any better or worse for multiplayer.

      • You mean MW 2019?

I guess I got lucky as that is like the only COD I played for many years and then haven't played any since.

        • Yeah, I liked it. Felt like they slowed it down a bit, made it feel a bit heavier, gave the guns a bit of heft, was much more satisfying actually shooting at stuff.

    • +4

Not missing much. Each cod feels like a mod pack of the previous one. Also single player campaigns are worth short for what is the original price, and value (for some) is in online play

    • Campaigns have always been like a standard action movie (turn your brain off and enjoy)

Infinite Warfare has prob been my favourite campaign, followed by Modern Warfare (2019) and Modern warfare 2.

Yet to play MW3, but reviews say they just took the sandbox mode from mw2 and kinda made it like that.

They're definitely fun and what you'd expect from CoD, but prob not full price if you aren't a fan, and even if you are, it's still overpriced.

      • +6

Problem is with Battlefield going to sh*t there isn't really much competition for COD anymore to make them try harder. I used to buy every Battlefield and play it heavily until the next one came out 2-3 years later. I bought Insurgency: Sandstorm when that came out back in 2021 mainly for something different to tide me over until BF2042 came out. When 2042 turned out to be a giant, steaming turd I just went back to Insurgency and I'm still playing that nearly 3 years later because there doesn't seem to be anything better available or even on the horizon.

    • time to see if i've been missing out on anything

If you haven't played 2019 MW yes, otherwise, everything since has been pure garbage.
      I waiting for BO6, I haven't played COD since 2019MW.

    • +1

It's Call of Duty so no lol. The graphics are prettier, but you're still just running around with a gun shooting people.

    • +1

      u havent missed anything

      maybe more modern graphics
like replay the best 2 singleplayer cod games in modern graphics

there was no way these games were worth even their discounted prices

and definitely not the map pack that was cod3

one upside to gamepass is access to this stuff

  • -1

    Infinity Ward game engine. lol

    • It’s efficient

      • -2

Wouldn't a brand new engine be more efficient than one from last century that's been updated over and over and over through the years? If we use a car engine analogy, brand new engines are always more efficient than old ones.

        • +1

Yeah I get that… but infinity ward was particularly light.. it’s kinda the exception. And visually it was fine.

        • +1

by this definition, almost all game engines are last century

        • But it would cost more…

  • +1

Is this the one with the laughably short campaign that Christopher Judge joked about in his speech? Or something else (The naming conventions of these make no sense to me, now that they are naming them the same name as the ones that came out 15 years ago..)
I don't play multiplayer, but have gone through a few of the campaigns in these and… didn't hate them. Wondering if this is even worth the download.

    • +1

Yep the campaign can be completed in 3 hours or so. It's not great even if you ignore the short runtime.
The MW 2019 campaign was actually decent, MWII not too bad, so it seems they got worse as they went. It clearly feels like a massive rush job just so they could get this game out and say it includes a campaign.

I went back and did it all on veteran difficulty, as I found the challenge to make it a lot more interesting. But overall if you want a fun campaign, you'd be better off playing any of the original or remasters of the first MW trilogy or get the first MW reboot game which was actually half decent. Black Ops Cold War also had one of the better campaigns from recent CoD games.

      • -1

They aren't going to put much effort in making a good or long campaign if the money is on microtransactions in the online mode. We should almost be thankful they even consider adding a singleplayer campaign. I wish they sold them separately, so you can just buy singleplayer for cheap, or online for cheap, not having to buy both if you only intend to play one mode.

      • +1

you really only play the campaign for the story. COD and BF have been like this. The AI totally sucks

even Spec ops the line had better AI/level difficulty. Titanfall is in the middle since its COD devs. You get to feel like a god mowing through enemies, but get a bit of a challenge

COD is mostly about making you feel like a tier 1 operator in your mums basement

the difficulty was never really the focus on COD. it was more of a cinematic interactive experience

i still remember that black ops 2 video where u can finish the game without firing a shot lol

  • Thank god I sold mine last month, the one that came free with xbox series x.

    • +15

Yes, what would life be if you still had it? Thank god mate, thank god.

      • +1

to be fair… i remember being a broke ass student where $40 makes a huge difference to your budget

    • +1

Lucky ducky. Back when I bought physical I'd wait for announcements like this and then scoop up the Xbox versions for SFA. Wouldn't be shocked to see the price nosedive in the next week or two.

  • it's $13x.xx minimum a year…

  • -3

Is a game release a deal now?

    • +4

This isn't a release, it is Modern Warfare III (released in 2023). You may be confused with the new Black Ops: Gulf War that is coming out this year (and is a day 1 game on Xbox Game Pass).

        • +4

Don't forget to complain about posts for new movies on Netflix/Prime/etc…

        • +19

The bargain is for people that already have game pass and was either 1) contemplating buying this game or 2) now can potentially get more value out of their game pass.

        • You’d be so fun at parties hey..

        • +9

It's a deal for me. I'm going to subscribe to gamepass for a month to play this. Hope that's not too triggering for you to see this benefiting someone?

      • It's not Black Ops gulf war, its Black Ops 6 btw

    • -1

Agree with you, especially that it an overrated and overhyped turd

  • +3

Finally. I hope they all get added. I haven't played a CoD in 10+ years.

  • +8

I had to give up on this game because the frequent updates are so freaking huge and my FTTN connection is slow as (profanity).

    • +3

Then once it's finally updated you have to restart the game 100 times just to play lol

      • +1

By the time you restart the game x number of times, there is another update to the drivers and perhaps the client software (battlenet) and by the time those finishes, and you leave windows alone for some time and it has decided to auto update windows and self destruct (crowdstrike).

        GG!

    • +5

Back in my day, I bought Modern Warfare 3 at midnight, put the disc in the PS3, didn't have to install anything, and could play it online for free.

Jokes aside I did put the disc in, I beat the campaign in one sitting, played a couple hours of MP, and then went to school in the morning (presumedly to talk to the boiz about it). Mandatory installs, I get it, I'm for it in some ways, but like, goddamn if I don't miss being able to just shove a disc in and go. As much as we (I?) all miss renting games and whatnot, the idea of needing to install a hundred gig day one patch every time kind of makes the rental system impossible unless you've got proper good internet.

The first (of many) big Activision games to be added to gamepass since Microsoft acquired them last year.

    • Diablo 4 was already released and possibly the first.

    • Diablo4 was added a couple of months ago.

  • +4

Microsoft needs a cloud only game pass tier

    • news popped up on my feed regarding

A cloud-only tier, ad-based tiers, and the return of a Family Plan may be on the cards

      • Nice!

      • Does that mean they’ll stop shoving ads down paid users throat on the Xbox dashboard?

  • +6

I think it's available tomorrow, not today. At least when I went to gamepass it said it's available on the 25th.

    • +2

yeah all Microsoft releases go by US time

  • +1

    Excellent.

Absolutely love the original Modern Warfare trilogy (to be fair I was 15 when MW3 came out), thought the MW reboot was great, but MW2 (2) was a bit lacklustre comparatively, and after hearing the negative stuff about MW3 (2) I figured it wasn't worth freeing up the hard drive space and doing an EB Games 10 day rental.

Time to activate a 2 week Game Pass trial and plug a USB HDD into the Series X, I guess.

    • Yes, it is a big download

      • Crazy how big they've got, hey.

I got my PS3 in late 2011 just in time for MW3, I scooped up 1 and 2 prior at DSE for cheap. All three, just put the disc in and go. Skipped Blops2, picked up Blops1 and WaW at Cashies, eventually got 2 and 3 when I got a 360 in 2012 too, filled out the whole set for pretty cheap. Came back for Ghosts (PS4 hype) and the PS3 disc more or less just went in and played…but then the $10 upgrade for the PS4 version came along and made me download 40 odd gig, it didn't hurt then, I only had a few PS4 games, my HDD was empty. Next thing I know, me and the (then) missus are at Blops 3 midnight, get the game home, shove it in, hour and a half later it's still downloading patches and we went to bed instead. The only COD I've played since is the MW reboots, played a bit of WWII in the office at Friday clock offs a couple years ago, that's it. The (profanity) file size is insane.

In 6 years (2013 PS3 Ghosts to 2019 MW reboot) we went from "Shove the disc in and go" to "If you want the 4K texture packs and all the spec ops content and everything and Warzone and whatnot, it's gonna take about one full Xbox One (profanity) HDD "

    • It won’t play off it though. You’ll need to move it to your internal SSD to play it anyway

      • Yeah, I used a lil Micro SD to take about 180 odd gig of games off my Series S (had more space on there than the X at the moment) and download the COD HQ thing last night.

Ideal setting would have been I download the Xbox One version and just throw that onto the Micro SD so I didn't have to copy my games back over in a couple days when the game is done and deleted. Buuuut Smart Delivery doesn't let you do that, if you play an Xbox One game on Series X/S, and you can get access to the Series X/S version, it won't boot the One version, which is quite poo. So like, Elden Ring for example, I don't care about the game, but I got it on disc for a mate to play on the Xbox One in the guest room right, copy it to a thumb drive one time and bring it up here to fire up on the X and play with him, it says "(profanity) off cobba, you need to download the Series X version" and wouldn't let me boot the Xbox One version at all. Frankly I'd prefer if they took the PS4/PS5 approach and had two separate downloads (with cross saves and whatnot obviously, which they already have). Anyway, about five minutes after I moved all those games to the USB I realized "oh wait, I've got an Xbox One SAD in the attic with like half a terabyte free doing nothing I could have just downloaded MW3 to that lol" :'(

  • Any free month game pass trials going around?

  • +2

Been waiting for this. Haven't played COD series in over 12 years. Looking forward to jumping online and being taunted by teenagers for my ever slowing reflexes. How the hunter becomes the hunted.

  • +1

think the last COD I played was the original MW2. they have lost me since all the bunny hopping.

    • That's gone in MW3

  • +1

My last CoD was Ghosts. I remember playing it thinking to myself, why am I playing this. Was not great.

  • -4

It's amazing how a game on Game Pass (what's equivalent to a subscription rental) is being considered here as a deal. I thought a deal actually contained a sale value to begin with and is some thing which you actually get to keep. How on earth is this a deal?.

    • +3

Why would you want to keep a CoD game anyway.

      • good point here, usually the player base drops off too much to be playable except with the same couple of people if they're all even lucky to be on at the same time. all my previously purchased cod games online lobbies are dead.

  • Time to trade in MW3 before the value drops

  • +1

yea i just bought it for 50 bucks last week!!!!!! ffs

    • +2

return it or put on FB market place

  • where's the link for this particular post?
    theres multiple versions available
Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III - Vault Edition
    is it this one?

    • +2

Not on Game Pass yet. It says from 9PM tonight.

  • +1

I recommend playing fortnite if you haven't played it. It is a free download and I thought it was too kiddy but it's quite easy to learn and hard to master.

    • Bro is a little late

  • So does this mean free game on PC?

  • Nice ! recently played the included COD on PSN

  • Really enjoyed the PVE coop zombies open world mode a lot, but shame the battle pass seasons are coming to an end soon. Still if you love grinding, collecting, modding, while blasting zombies with or without friends, i highly recommend.

  • +1

    available tomorrow for us

    • Yep not available yet - cant find it on xbox app

  • Curious, are people still getting banned on steamdeck/rog ally when playing CoD? I’ve held off downloading on the ally since early days people were saying they were getting banned (something to do with overlay menus?)…

  • +1

looks available with both MW2 & MW3 under Call Of Duty base game

on xbox console you need to download base game 80GB the rest are optional (about 10-30gb each) campaign, multiplayer, co-op for each title and warzone (total download appears to be less than total selected guessing it doesn't duplicate repeated assets between packs)

    on PC it's a single 155GB download

  • +1

Play XDefiant and forget about this. Activision did such a d!ck move by putting a launch screen and blocking you from previous games!

    • +1

Fingers crossed it changes in the future, but in its current state XDefiant is garbo. The netcode is equivalent to Battlefield 3/4 at its worst, but without the environmental complexity and scale as justification. Additionally, the experience point values need to be tweaked for the non-TDM game modes to encourage players to focus on the objectives and discourage hanging around the outskirts of the playable area to farm cheap kills. Obviously, it's free so I'm not too phased by it, but if Ubisoft want it to be the 'CoD Killer' it was marketed as, they need to resolve the glaring issues.

  • +1

Downloaded to play the campaign. 217 GB download and mandatory Activision account login 😒
