Offered a Free PSU Upgrade - Help Me Look

I placed an order for a pc with one of the popular retailers recently during the EOFY sale and yesterday received an email about a free upgrade. I'm out of the loop in terms of what's good but this is what I was advised:

We will be giving you a free upgrade on the power supply to Gigabyte P650SS 650W 80+ Silver over the Aigo GB750 750W 80+ Bronze with better power efficiency and reliability.

The question is, I initially picked a 750W PSU in anticipation of future upgrades. Isn't the Gigabyte one lower powered? Is this a good upgrade to have?

Seeking some feedback thanks.

Gigabyte P650 is a tier C low-end compared to an Aigo which appears to be a very generic (possibly Vietnamese) PSU. Personally I wouldn't touch either but that is because I value my components and want a crash free experience.

I don't hear much about AIGO Darkflash power supplies and have not read a single review about them. Very likely it's a generic OEM manufactured by third party with an AIGO brand slapped on it.

If you're lucky it might be manufactured by a reliable company like FSP or Channel Well, but it's more likely that it's also a C or D tier power supply and not actually better than the Gigabyte PSU.

Gigabyte probably the better one, while the Aigo is rated 750w it probably can't actually supply that. How credible is a rating if the person just makes it up.

Similar to how you'll see off brand power banks claiming 300,000mah while being the size of a AA battery.

Having said that not sure I'd trust a Gigabyte PSU either, while better than Aigo they have had a history of sketchy behavior in the PSU business, which I reckon is why their units are so cheap compared to other name brands. They had exploding power supplies and did not handle it well at all, until there was big news in the media. More info: https://www.techpowerup.com/285655/gigabyte-reportedly-refus…

I'd honestly just spend $100-150 get yourself a decent PSU from Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, FSP etc. PSU is most crucial part of your computer. Prevents other components breaking, prevents your house burning down.

  • Thanks for the inputs guys. I can't really override the component as it's part of an included list, but it sounds like this one is the lesser to 2 evils then.

  • Nebula sounds like an upgrade over techfast …

    • I bought one due to all the upvotes, but they must have received a lot of orders. I finally received an update that they're ready to deliver my PC!

Sounds like you're already ahead 👍
